New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Oh the new DHC doesn't have the horse power to design much new either. They have their hand full getting the plant built and servicing the planes out there already. They could maybe do something the DASH 8, the Twin Otter or the water bomber. They just got a cargo and combi version of the Dash 8 certified. A new Dash 7 is a never. The buffalo is lonnnnng shot as to be a no.
 

The new caspian icebreaker is getting worked in on Georgian Bay. Pretty quick to be put to work

Curious what they'll have to do IOT get the yard upgrades done and if it will impact the ongoing repair work (TOR is there at the moment). They needed less upgrades than the other two yards but still needed some to come up to the NSS standards from 2010, which theoretically would have increased in the last 13 years to keep up with the industry standards for modern building.

The thicker steel is more forgiving but does mean all the welding/forming takes longer so errors cost more to fix, and it's a good sized ship.
 


Davie is apparently looking to purchase the assets of Helsinki Shipyard as of today. They seem to be another yard specializing in ice strengthened vessels, could be an interesting purchase. Could this mean anything for Canada's future procurements going forward? More capable Davie?

Remember, please, when we say "Chantier Davie" we are NOT talking about Québec Inc, any more. We're talking about the UK based Inocea Group which has global ambitions - not reach, but ambitions.

Probably won't be getting much Russian work.
 
Again, this fiction keeps getting propagated; Davie put in a bid for NSS but was 3rd place, with only 2 spots (combatant and non-combatant).

Wish they would stop this as there is a big box full of the Davie bid sitting in the NSS office with all the scoring and was considered. They just lost.
