Trudeau Popularity - or not. Nanos research

I can't even fathom how people can come up with these ideas, this country is going to virtue signal and handicap itself to death. With our economy, debt, social climate we're to the point where you hope our kids don't have kids, unless they move to another continent to do it. This country will not be a good place to be in within 50 years and unrecognizable in 100.

One of the great disruptive slogans of all time:

Think Globally, Act Locally.

He said. She said.
What he said.

The sweet spot is somewhere between Milei and Freeland.

This perspective recognizes Adam Smith’s invisible hand and his suspicion of the men of systems he articulated in The Wealth of Nations. But it also embodies his sense that economies are living institutions, embedded in the culture of the day that is outlined in his Theory of Moral Sentiments, where he argues that morality is built into us as social beings who are guided by self-interest and natural sympathy.

However, that benevolence does not extend to the profligacy of the Trudeau Liberals, where the line: “We can’t afford not to (spend)” has been wheeled out far too often to excuse unnecessary state intervention.

Milei provided a timely riposte to such thinking: “Argentina is an empirical demonstration that no matter how rich you may be or how much you have in terms of natural resources or how skilled your population may be, or how many pounds of gold you have in your central bank, if measures are adopted that hinder the free functioning of markets, free competition, free prices, or if you attack private property, then the only possible fate is poverty. ”

Long live freedom, dammit.

When it comes to housing, I think PP has the best plan out of the options we have...build more houses. Period. And ideally, built more multi-family dwellings near transit stations. Makes sense.

There will always be a market of people who want to raise a family in the suburbs where they have a single family home, backyard, pets, and they grow as a family with other families also growing in the same boat.

There will always be a market of people who just moved out from home, or who perhaps just arrived in Canada, who will benefit more from having all of their goods & services available much closer to them, and who will rely exclusively on public transit.

Building more of both makes a lot of sense...

Allowing 1.3 million people into the country while only building enough new housing to accomodate approx 200,000 people makes no sense. And that doesn't even include other people who will also be looking for housing (recently divorced or broken up people, people moving out from home, etc etc)

If withholding some federal dollars from municipalities until they actually build the infrastructure the money is intended for is what it takes to get that infrastructure built - seems like a good incentive/kick in the pants to start getting stuff done

How on Earth does the LPC think to itself that by attacking small business owners who offer wood fired pizza is going to help them in the next election?

Talk about being completely aloof with what the citizenry wants...holy cow... 🤦🏼‍♂️

Maybe it's the final nail in the coffin thats required for anybody who is still thinking of voting for this bunch of clowns? Maybe they'll finally see how little they care about the big issues, and just want to get into their wallets...

Or maybe this is the LPC's year of crushing the little guys as much as they can since they know they have absolutely 0 chance of winning anything come election time...

Poor strategic planning will always defeat good intentions.

E.g.,

Ironically, this $15 B CMHC program for rental apartment construction has diverted so many trades away from other construction projects, apparently, that it's really difficult to get any other kind of projects accelerated.

His other plan on this file is tying immigration levels to housing availability. Rather sensible, given the current insane levels with no rhyme or reason.

Id also like to add targeted immigration towards professions we are in dire need of. And I would close off immigration to any folks over 50, you should have work and spend time and money contributing to our social services before you can draw from them.

So you're saying that a second order effect might be to increase pay in skilled trades, drawing labour into that sector, and increasing capacity there?

We as a nation have done a piss poor job selling the trades to our youth.

Once you get the ticket the wage will be considerably higher.

If only there were a federal level champion of skilled labour that could help effect these changes in a rational fashion...

Because trudeau himself is devoid of any ideas for real climate and has placed us as hostages to his evangelistic convicted ecoterrorist, whose only goal is to see us freeze in the dark.
