Regarding the education thing, maybe after getting your GED you should look at some construction related college programs? You can do a certificate program (1 year) and it'll give you a lot of useful physics and math skills that you would use as an Engineer. Ontario has a lot of good colleges...

Why would they use it? Because that's their job...The infantry not having pioneers means the Engineer's opportunity to operate in their primary role increases tenfold.

In my area the reserves usually start the process around April, for enrollment in September for weekend BMQ. If the brigade where you are runs full time summer BMQ you might be in sooner. Only way is to go in and find out! Good luck  :)

Honestly, I would pursue something in the Reserves that's different from your civilian trade. Why do a job 9-5 and then go to an armouries on weekends and Tuesday nights and do the same thing? Change it up! Go infantry.
