What PC Video Game Are You Playing Now?

mellian said:
Dwarf Fortress on my computer, and so far Mass Effect and Brutal Legends on my brother's Xbox 360.

I've been meaning to get into Dwarf Fortress for years now. It's just so... daunting. And Mass Effect is still the only game for the 360 that was good enough that I felt the need to sit down and get every bloody achievement. Took me like 3 weeks, but hey, good times.

As for what I've been playing, mostly Civilization IV and this base-building sim called Evil Genius.

It is at first, bit manage to find a good tileset and good tutorial to help deal with the learning curve. Plus Dwarf Fortress Wiki with its tons of information.

Two Worlds, sort of an Oblivion knockoff, with some thing better and some worse, lots of monsters and animals to kill.

I've been playing the Battlefield Series of ages, with Bad Company 2 now and on weekends usually play Armed Assault 2 (Combat Simulator) in an organized scenario based Tournament called Armed Global Warfare with some friends (many of whom are current or ex-military)

I've been spending the last couple weeks on Transcendence, which was most aptly described as the love-child of Nethack and Star Control II. It's a fun game where you're the pilot of a spaceship trying to reach the galactic core, moving from system to system via jump-gates. All the systems and the enemies are randomly generated, with a few exceptions.

You can earn credits by mining asteroids, buying goods from one station and selling at another, escorting ships and protecting them from pirates, drug running, rescuing slaves, or taking the slaves and selling them, working for the militia to take out pirates, etc. Of course, the most fun way to earn credits is to go blow up the enemies and loot their gear, selling what you don't want to keep for yourself. Of course your weapons, shields, and armour can all be upgraded, amongst other things. It's quite fun.

And it's freely downloadable, from here. The website also has useful forums if you need help. Good times. Highly recommended.

I am still playing Civilization IV and DEFCON... my machine's been so slow recently, I fear installing FPS and other demanding games...  :-[

That kinda sounds like Eve online

I got "Frontlines, Fuel of war" from the bargin bin, having an app error that prevents me from playing the game.

I have been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 for awhile it's allot off fun for a FPS .

Lately I've been playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Oblivion (pulled it out again) on PC. Tried Fallout 3 for a while, but I keep getting random crashes as many have. Done a lot of troubleshooting, and every once and a while it works fine for hours, but then randomly crashes, so it's no longer worth my time.

I know I already posted in this topic, but I've been wondering if any people play Company of Heroes on a frequent basis (online)?

The Hunter. Online hunting sim. Free to hunt as many Mule Deer as you like with a .243 if you want other animals, guns, and areas then you need to buy a membership. Amazing graphics, though admittedly not a game for everyone.

Sorry PS3 and not PC, but Red Dead Redemption (wild west) is amazing.  Rockstar Gaming (from Grand Theft Auto fame) does the wide-open-universe game like nobody else.

I'm not a huge GTA fan but Red Dead Redemption looks quite good. Been keeping an eye on it. I'll probably give it a try.

The difference between GTA and RDR is the "Honour" rating system.

For example, you can do a lot of things and build your "Fame" metre such as killing police and whatnot, but your "Honour" metre goes down which costs you elsewhere in the game.

A high honour rating gets you discounts at stores, and people are less likely to rat on you when you do break the law.

It's highly addictive as a game, and like I said the wide-open-world is incredible.  You can go from point to point however you want, and on the way all sorts of side things will pop up that you can do it you want (shoot animals, rob someone, help someone, etc).

I've played a wide variety of games, though for the last few months it has primarily been Battlefield: Bad Company 2.  I'll probably stop with the computer gaming though and switch to console, I don't feel the need to continue shoveling money into my previous passion of building fancy liquid cooled gaming computers.  All the games I do play on PC such as Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Bad Company 2 are available on PS3; and I might just get a mid-range Macbook Pro for the occasional Team Fortress 2 Match, which is extremely rare as it is.

Exactly why I switched over a couple years ago.

Why spend thousands on constantly upgrading a PC to play the latest games when you can spend $500 on a computer that can surf the net and word process and $300 on a gaming system with full internet capability anyway.

Any advantage that PCs may have had circa 2000-2005 when you could download patches and things like that have all been wiped out because consoles now do that and are just as easy to play multiplayer with.

Earlier in the month was playing Dwarf Fortress, and presently Civ 4: Beyond the Sword with the Planetfall mod which I am gradually tweaking for my own enjoyment.

That's exactly what led me to the same conclusion.  Another major factor was time.  Coming back from various deployments, training, etc; I really don't plan to plop myself in front of the computer instead of immediately heading out to do family activities with the wife and kids - essentially making a fancy-schmancy gaming computer really just a big waste of money.  I will of course miss the fun of heading off to the store to pick parts and then relax at home with a beer building the beast; but oh well. It takes less time to just fire a disc into the PS3 and leaves me more money to keep in the savings account.  Win/Win in my books.
