Very cool!  Almost perfectly preserved - not much oxygen down at 17,000’ depth.
 
USS Hornet sunk at Battle of Santa Cruz Islands in Oct. 1942 (http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/battles_santa_cruz_islands.html ). That was last carrier vs. carrier engagement in Pacific until Battle of Philippine Sea June 1944 (AKA "Great Marianas Turkey Shoot", http://www.historyofwar.org/articles/battles_philippine_sea.html ); in 1943 before arrival of Essex Class carriers USN not strong enough to risk one.
