I am researching and collecting the patching and insignia the Canadian Roto's are wearing in Afghanistan. Interested in acquiring patches worn, images of Canadians wearing their patches and documenting the insignia worn on the mission. Please contact me if you have any of the above.
Thanks Bill

Are you looking for Official of Non-official patches?

Official being the IR Flags, the ISAF patch, and the IR indicator (there may be more.)

Non-Official being Morale patches and unofficial unit patches such as the Red Devils - A Coy, 1 PPCLI (I seem to recall seeing a Velcro patch) or the Crazy 8s (8 ball) patch - 8 Plt, C Coy, 1 RCR.

Keep in mind, just about every unit that goes over has countless non-official patches they wear around (and get in trouble for), but there are very few "official" patches worn... and we all generally wear the same ones (ISAF, IR flag and IR indicator).

I have a picture I'll see if I can get off my phone of one sported by a guy I know - "Maywand Highway Patrol".

Hi RHFC_piper, Yes I am aware of the official vs unofficial patching that is being worn. I am interested in both official and non-official. The official include IR flag, the ISAF patches (including varieties), the PRT patches and there are a few more official patches plus the cadpat titles. The unofficial ones are more difficult, but are also of interest.

Here's an "unofficial" patch, made by the the Kingston Brewing Company (aka the Brew Pub), famous for it's Dragon's Breath Pale Ale.  There was only 100 of these patches made, sold at $10 each and all proceeds went to an orphanage in Afghanistan.

Thnks for the image. Do you know who wore this (units?) and when it was worn? (Eg a particular Roto?)

Sorry, no.  I think it was created after a Roto returned.

One of the guys in my unit has this patch - he was part of A Coy, 1 PPCLI before he CT'd to my unit.

If he Can't get an image I certainly can dig out my "Red Devils" patch and put it up.

There's a couple here.  I'll try to get better pics for you.

KMNB - I believe is Kabul Multi-National Brigade and the other is a "Survivor" patch for Camp Mirage.

Are those...Pogs...in that case? :D

Yea; when you buy stuff in KAF with money you get pogs worth .05, .10 cents, etc instead of coins for change.  One side shows the value of the pog, the other side as an American image on it, like US Soldiers, etc

They sure are Ryan.  They are great little collector items, some being rarer than others.  When we send stuff to soldiers overseas we sometimes ask for something in return.  We have received some pretty unique stuff.

I'll also try to post a pic of the JPCC patch.

Thanks for the information posted to date. I would really appreciate images of the patches that have been mentioned. Some of these are quite scare, and have not been documented. Any further patches or information is welcome.

It took a while, but here you are Bill.  I apologize for the quality of some as they were in a cabinet and we couldn't find the key to open it.

I have no idea what this is.  It has a reflective portion and possibly an IR portion.  If someone can tell me what it is, I would appreciate it.

Feel free to edit photos as required.

Thanks. Will add the images to my research files. Who should be credited?

If you need/want to, credit 2804 RCACC Casselman.  Cheers

That is an IR/reflective indicator... worn on the right (I think) sleeve to help identify CF troops through IR and reduce friendly fire...

Note: not visible from the air.

Worn on the left arm, above the ISAF badge.
