I did a search but found no reference to a similar thread (except for cadences).

What are some of you favorite military songs (at least with a military theme) ?

Joe Strummer - Minstrel Boy (Black Hawk Down version)
US military - Taps
Jars of Clay - the Widowing Field
Status Quo - In the Army now
Blood on the risers
Peter Schiling - Major Tom
Hans Zimmer - Leave no man behind (Black Hawk Down)

I'm waiting for some good suggestions as my list is rather short :)

Here's a few common ones that I really like, even if American:

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son

Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers

Buffalo Springfield: For What It's Worth

Rolling Stones - Paint it Black...  come on.. I'm not the only one who watched Tour of Duty.. :p
The theme from Starship Troopers.. I like listening to it while pulling my kit togethor for an ex. Overall, it's just a great tune.

I apoligize, I can't remember the name or the song, or who sings it, but it is a song that every Nova Sotian knows. The title is '(something) Privateers. If anyone knows the song, can you please let me know what it is, I have been trying to remember it since my trip to NS last year.

On the other hand, Panzerlied is over-rated...

I like panzerlied. i've heard it in english does any one have a translated copy of the words? In english?

Ah yes, Barrett's Privateers, played at least twice a night, every night at the Lower Deck. It starts to wear on you after a while, like the first Great Big Sea CD did when I was on French training for almost a year, every Thurs & Fri night some east coaster who hadn't been in the mess for the previous 20 weeks would throw that CD on.

Perhaps you shouldn't be in the lower Deck every night then? :blotto:

I must confess - I have sung that sung on many a night - ususally in combats or in rugby strip - and occasionally in the lower Deck.

The best version of Barrett's Privateers was done by the Irish Descendants.

Try "Buy us a Drink" by The Fables, good east coast music with a military theme

If you want a song that makes you think. Try a song called  "The 4th Branch"-Immortal Technique, basically it is a look at the military through the eyes of a civilian, I must warn you though, it is an American look at it though. Still worth a try though.
