Hi Spr Earl,
I am ex-Navy Diving I.E.O.D served 13 years during the high of the terrorist conflict in South Africa.Currently living in Israel,I find the above link very informative and have subsequently passed it on to some of my friends in the Israeli Police I.E.O.D teams to include it in their data base.
I have a request however, years ago in South Africa we encountered several attacks by terrorist using a
Soviet limpet mine (Not the hub-cap type)
I am looking for information on a small limpet type mine (Anti-ship mine) used by the Soviets. It has two
sets of magnets ,bread shaped, with a det.well on the one end and a canvas carrying handle.
Any help you or some of the members on this site can give in this regard will be highly appreciated.
It is probably a SPM. It is a time delay used for demolition or sabotage. Here is the link for you: http://ndmic-cidnm.forces.gc.ca/landmine.asp?lang=e&LandmineID=388
Chimo,
Excellent ! you hit the nail on the head !
I appreciate it very much and will pass this on to those that are currently doing operational IEOD work out here in the Middle East.
This was a real nasty little mine ,easy to carry and versatile in its application. I am always worried that it could find its way into the local terrorist arsenal.
Well I hope that between us ,we saved some lives out here. I wish there are more serious members like you on this site.
