JTF-2 Selection

Tron Funkin Blows!

Yes, quite possibly the best movie to come out of Canada, Giv‘r boys!

When I was on HMCS Regina my dads friend who remustered from the infantry said he had several close buddies that joined or tried to join JTF-2 and from what he told me they recruite from all branches but mainly from the infantry including reserves and have there own apptitude test to determine if yer gonna be an assualter or support. And there phisical fitness test is really hard. You have to be in for at least two years before you can apply and he also said that you dont stay JTF your whole career I think he said like 4 years then you go back to your regiment.

anyone got a spare ninja sniper camo net handy?

Sorry, i am still using it for operation SLURPI. Really hot here so team Ninja Snipers are going down to 7/11 in a minute.

Despite the fact that I promised myself I would never reply to any thread regarding JTF 2, I‘m bored right now so I‘ll make an exception. Alright, I highly doubt anyone on this board has any firsthand knowledge whatsoever regarding JTF anything. So for all you guys who have goals of becoming one of the men in black, join the army, work very hard, attend a JTF recruiting session, and then apply. Having done this you‘ll have gained two things:

1. the knowledge that you‘ve followed through with your goal of applying for one of the most demanding units the CF has to offer and,

2. you‘ll also know just as much about the JTF as 99% of us.

I think leaving at that is the safest thing to do. Anyone who has firsthand knowledge shouldn't be speaking of it.

Just thoughts

Cheers

Since this topic has been opened and discussed probably more than any other on this forum, and has gotten to the point where we're all so sick of it being brought up we want to scream, I'm closing this thread.

Skull, there are probably THOUSANDS of posts on this board alone about the JTF. Anything worthwhile has been said, and anything that hasn't been said already probably isn't worthwhile. Do a search through the archives and you'll find enough JTF posts to choke a donkey.

Hi,
I've been thinking of joining the canadian army but I have a few quesitons/concerns that I would like to have answered.
If I do decide to join and I am accepted I would want to advance up to special operations and specialist skills, so I was wondering what did the canadian army have in terms of special services and commando units? Also if I didn't have what it takes to join such a unit as I noted before then I would more then likely not stay in the army for a career, so i was wondering how long would the minimum time be?

And how much do recruiters look at you high school career?

Thank you for answers givin

Hi Service
I recommend that you spend some time going through the recruiting and site FAQs. There you will find an abundance of information that will answer all of your questions and many more. It is best you do this before starting any other new threads as to keep the clutter to a minimum on this site.

(edit) - Please read the site guidelines as well

*mods - lock er up before it gets in to another one of those discussions?*

Welcome to the board Service!

My advice is, if you should decide to join, worry about actually being selected and becoming a part of the Canadian Forces. Having aspirations of joining the special forces is not uncommon but know that is extremely hard work. You must be selected by your CO (Commanding Officer) for the processes leading up to being a "Commando".

Work hard, learn extra courses(Basic Para, MG (machine gunner)), and be committed.

As I stated before, worry about joining first. You may not like it afterwards so don't be disappointed.

Cheers

(Moderator Edit - Incorrect information struck through, application for service with JTF-2 starts with member submitting voluntary application, see http://www.dcds.forces.gc.ca/units/jtf2/pages/recruiting_e.asp)

Thanks guys
I understand about not looking to far in the future and look at whats infront of you but I see no point of joining CF if I can't be the best and it would probably be a waste of time.

I knew about the JTF2 already I live near one of there bases and I have seen them practice there combat drops off and helos and seen some of there snipers in there ghille suits.

thanks again

Not a commando unit, but you may want to do a search and read a little about SAR Techs as well...

Keep in mind that if you have aspirations of joining ANY special operations type unit, you need to start at the bottom. You cannot join the army and bypass the basic soldiering skills and the experience that only time in will get you.

The SF operators in general are in their late 20's early 30's and have extensive training within their primary MOC's and advanced training.

You might want to consider your reasons for joining the CF at all if you feel that unless you can be in the JTF, you won't join. You will NOT succeed if you have that sort of attitude, especially when you need the "can-do" attitude the JTF will likely be looking for. I know some absolutely outstanding soldiers, both reg and reserve who are masters at their crafts. The were not selected for JTF, but have still maintained professionalism and are amongst the best of the best.

At the end of the day, the JTF Operators are soldiers........When finished their time there, many will leave the CF, or go back to their respective units and carry on..........

Being the best of the best depends largely on your definition of the term. If you were the best of the best pizza makers, or carpenters, you'd still have started at the bottom, learned your trade, and afforded yourself the opportunities to become great. Or not.

Isn't the whole point of any job being the best at your trade no matter what it is? Be it Clerk, Arty, Infanteer, whatever... It's not about being a super-secret-squirrely-ninja-sniper, and looking 'cool', but about doing your job to the best of your ability.

I wouldn't quite call the vast majority of those in the CF who have never served in JTF-2 as "wasting their time..."

Okay goodbye.  Next please.

Come here to Shilo and take part of the Patricias training, their unarmed combat, ruck marches, running, warfare tactics, stalking exercises, firing the weapons all day long and the constant section attacks, and tell them that it's all a waste of time.

Five dollars says you don't leave the base in the same condition you arrived in.

On the JTF2 website it says that they recruit from all MOC's and branches of the CF.  DO they say this because its true, or because they have to?

I mean a cook doesn't exactly have the same soldiering skills as an infantrymen.  Someone who has been at a desk for their career vs. the person who has numerous TIC's.  Or even a MARS officer compared to a Combat Arms Officer.

SO is it realistic to think that someone could apply successfully to the CSOR or JTF-2 without being in a combat arms MOC with TIC's under their belt?

Thanks for everyone who weighs in on this issue.
