How can I increase my chances

I've failed to find any threads or atleast any threads that weren't asked by 15 year olds with 95% student averages worrying about getting into RMC (not a bad thing, just not relevant to me).  So I thought I would ask, I do apologize if it's been asked before, I just couldn't find it.

Anyways, I'm applying for armoured crewman (reg force) and about to re-do my application, but I want to make sure that I do everything that's in my power to give me the best chance of getting the job offer.  I'm looking for any help any adivce or tips.  I guess it's a 'what are recruiters looking for' type question also

I know that seems dumb, but theres how many thousands of applicants for this one MOC and you have to be competitive.  I recently start taking self-credit HS courses so I can finish my OSSD in 2-3 months.  Having my HS diploma is better than if I just had my grade 11.  I've worked out like crazy, managed to lose 25lbs in the last 5 months (all together 133lbs down from 251lbs the last 17 months) to meet and surpass the male requirements.  I'm not fluent in French, but that's something I'm wanting to work on.  I don't know what else to do to improve my chances, if there is anything

Long story short, I still feel like I'm doing the bare minimum and need some advice from the smart people on here lol  Any insight?

Thanks
holly

Holly,  Have you asked your local CFRC if there are any civilian credentials/certification that would help move you ahead of the line in the field your trying for?  I ask because I'm going for Combat Engineer and my local recruiter said that if I had my Heavy Equipment Operator license, Transport license (AZ), Boat License etc...  that would give me merit into the field I'm applying for and would better my chances of acceptance so in about two weeks I start training for my AZ, and of course this also gets me a job while I wait...  I see you are finishing up your OSSD, good idea,  I'm actually taking grade 10 math class over again at my local Adult Ed school to prepare for the CFAT.

I had the chance to talk to a Warrant Officer recently, proudly I told him I was running 3km every other day to prepare for my PT test and of course hopefully BMQ, he told me that wasn't good enough and that I should be running 5km, so here I am working on 5km ...
any way, just thought I would leave you my 2cents, good luck

I am not sure where you are in the application process.

That being said the interview will be very important. Know every possible detail about the trades you want to join including where, when and how long each of your future courses will be, when you will finally be qualified, what the living conditions are like at each school, deployment, exercises. The impression you give will not be "I like armoured it looks cool" , "I want a career in the Armoured core because it closely relates to the things I enjoy doing in my life."

Show examples in your civilian life that show your desire for that job. As JustinTime said course specific as well as experience specific ( ask the recruiter for them). Ie outdoor adventures, driving.

I wish you the best of luck, you are starting in the right direction!

Do you play sports? Are you in good shape? Have you had jobs in the past?

etc. Do you have good references? All these things help considerably. As a 16 year old currently going through the final stages of recruitment it is very important to make sure everything looks good all around. Being a crucial part of the community helps, well it helped me!

Mike.

I haven't asked anyone about the civilian certification yet, but I will.  I only have a Personal Trainer Specialist certification and a Nutrition & Wellness Specialist certification, thats it and it's clearly nothing that would aid me in the trade that I want.

I'll make sure that I go into the interview prepared, thanks for the pointers!

Thanks everyone for the replies, really appreciate it :)
