Job description : The Collections Management & Planning Division at the Canadian War Museum (CWM) is currently seeking a dynamic individual who will, under the supervision of the Director CWM Collections Management and Planning, co-ordinate the acquisitions, preservation and maintenance of the assigned CWM Collections; organize the Collections refinement process; initiate artifact based research projects; provide access to the Collections; and perform other related duties as assigned.
As the ideal candidate, you hold a minimum; MA-degree in History, and a three (3) year college Diploma in Museum studies, or an equivalent combination of museum studies and work experience.
You possess knowledge of:
• Canadian history, (particularly Canadian military history), military material culture, and the general history of war;
• Canadian firearm regulation, laws and policy; including Bill-C-68 and the Canadian Firearms Registry;
• The principles of project management and collections management;
• Delivery of museum projects and programs;
• Collections management techniques;
• Conservation/restoration techniques and development;
• Workplace health & safety rules/regulations.
You have three (3) to five (5) years experience in:
• Managing and developing museum collections;
• Computerized artifact data base systems (Ke-Emu), and computer based office systems;
• Must be able to qualify for and obtain all Canadian Licenses to the Restricted status, as per Canadian Regulations.
Since you will be working in a highly computerized environment, a demonstrated experience of word processing (Word), electronic spreadsheet (Excel), presentation (Power Point) and electronic mail (Outlook) is required.
