    The Canadian Commando Course

What is Battleschool something lesser these days?

    The Canadian Commando Course

Isn't this called "Battleschool"? We did 80% of that anyway when I did it in 89.

    BRAVO TWO ZERO (Movie Review)

Both. It's an alright read but judging by some other accounts take it with a grain of salt.

Comparing the Regiments (PPCLI, RCR, and R22eR) and thier bases

I had no problem speaking up about my concerns when I was in, even as a lowly private. I was never charged for speaking my mind, however nobody ever really listened surprise surprise. Mostly I was just told to shut up. So I left to civie land.

Taliban and NATO "In Talks" to pull out of Several Areas

Perhaps we could hear the thoughts on this from some of those who have been there? http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2006/11/14/delegation-afghanistan.html

    Least appealing Aspects of Infantry

When I was in General Lewis Mackenzie was the base commander of CFB Gagetown and was an avid race car aficionado. For some reason he decided to have a race on the RCR parade grounds. I was fortunate enough to be picked, at random, by the RSM to spend my weekend on my knees scrubbing the square...

    Afghanistan: Lessons Learned (merged)

I'm curious, did you guys have any snipers attached? If so did they prove useful? If not do you think they would have?

Canadians losing knowledge of military history

That wasn't my original source. I read a book some place, can't remember the name, and saw an excellent documentary on TV. I just posted that link so people could get some more info.

Canadians losing knowledge of military history

The point should also be made that there needs to be as an objective teaching of the history as possible. This seems obvious however the Boer War may be an example of this perhaps not being the case. When I was in the RCR we used to celebrate Paardeberg day. It wasn't until I left and did some...

CTV News: Military to buy new shells costing $150,000 each

Forgive my ignorance. What's the difference in accuracy here? I always assumed our gunners were pretty accurate in general.

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

OK perhaps you are right and that is somewhat rude and if so I apologize. It may be that I get my back up a little when an Airforce Captain infers that, essentially my opinion is not based on some form of foreknowledge. "Try doing all that training wearing wool and using (what can be...

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

Actually I haven't called anyone sir since I left the army. Brings back bad memories of having to feign respect for people I had no respect for.

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

Sure he was training them the original way. I'm sure a lot of those old timers have the detached retinas to show for it. Give you head a shake sir. As well perhaps you haven't read the book I was referring to? They did 40 plus mile forced marches. What did they do last night? Nineteen km's if I...

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

It's a figure of speach. You don't maim and destroy your own troops. Not if you want an effective fighting force. Intense training often results in injury but it should not be from a poke in the eye by your own instructor. What's the point of that? The guy could have been permanently injured for...

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

I've done a lot of martial arts training in my life and that certainly was not intense. It also certainly is not cool to poke someone in the eye in any form of martial arts training as that can result in serious injury. If he had done that to me I would have given him the opportunity to see just...

"The Devil's Brigade" Reality Series on History Channel

I watched it. I was a little bit disappointed. There were no regular force Canadians. In no way do I mean to infer that reserve soldiers are lesser in some way but it seems just a little odd to pit someone whose job as a soldier is part time with seasoned full time American SF soldiers. It also...

Dealing with being home from Kandahar

After leaving 2 RCR my friends went to Somalia, and then Bosnia. I felt guilty the whole time. I still feel guilty not being there 15 years later. The only thing I can say is that your family here needs you. In the end those are the people who will be there for you. Don't let that go.

    PERs : All issues questions...2003-2019

Too true. I'd be willing to give more too, as long as I knew it wasn't going toward some nancy-pink-skirt-wearin' mutation of soldierin' ;-)
