A bit more in the attached Statement of Work..... Background
Over the past 60 years there have been many field trials and scientific expeditions to the Canadian Arctic and a limited amount of work in Antarctica. Several research groups in defence science establishments across Canada have participated in the efforts and with changes in the program, laboratory closures, and reductions in the overall staffing as well as retirements, the corporate knowledge of the polar research within the organization has been reduced. At present, there is no single summary of the projects, types of activities, and locations of the field work in existence. As interest in the Arctic continues to grow, there are many questions arising that require significant and increasing effort to answer. This contract is a step toward providing a clear historical perspective for new researchers and interested members of the CF and general public. It is anticipated that this document will be used as a starting point for planning new projects and research activities. It will, together with other documents and training, provide an illustration of the type of activities that can be undertaken and indicate where valuable scientific information may exist that could support new projects
Objective
The objective of this contract is to produce an unclassified, distributable Technical Memorandum (TM) that will serve as an introduction to the history of defence scientific efforts in the polar regions and provide a perspective on the nature and types of work that have been carried out for members of the Canadian Forces, new Arctic researchers, and interested members of the public ....
