We hear a lot about polls, but very little about the way they are conducted. After 2016, when Clinton was supposedly far ahead in the polls, you'd think that polls would be done differently to prevent such huge faceplants, but apparently not:

That's a very thorough analysis of polls, albeit somewhat slanted toward Trump. But it's an example of how the Republicans are viciously spinning the poll results to their advantage and that tells me they are very worried.

As an aside, I wonder now about Canadian polling - who is doing the breakdown of the methodology being used here?

Here's a clue on Canada's newspapers and the direction in which a lot of them are going to spin our politics.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaPolitics/comments/3vz68h/political_slants_of_canadian_newspapers/

Please everybody keep in mind that I'm rather neutral on who wins the presidency. I just consider that the Dem party hs avoided making the move to a candidate that could make the US more normal for a capitalist democracy like Canada and the other leading democracies. I say that because I think I can provide an unbiased approach to what's happening in the US now.

So the winner will be? Every consideration included, I would bet on Trump but wouldn't offer any odds.

Redstate.com? You think so?  :)

Overall, we rate RedState borderline Questionable and strongly Right Biased, based on story selection that always favors the right and use of emotionally loaded (sensationalized) headlines. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to poor sourcing of information and a few failed fact checks.

I doubt they are wetting their beds.

I was actually wondering about that. I had heard that Redstate had turned sour on Trump but I haven't visited there for probably about 2 years. I don't even know if their mouthpiece is still the same guy? Ericson?

I doubt they are wetting their beds.

Rhetorically speaking, I disagree.

December 14!! I had to read that because I had no idea.

Still, it's allowing 40 days?

As far as I know the media haven't mentioned that. Could it be that the media considers it irrelevant because of 40 days in which to get it done.

Having said that, I too think you're onto something in that Trump, with Barr's and the Post office's maneuvering can make it relevant.. Good one Mario!

Wow. National Review used to be a respectable journal. I knew it’s gone downhill lately, but that is pure batshittery that would make those at Gateway Pundit and OANN blush.

William F. Buckley must be spinning in his grave.

The author of that article wrote a well received biography on William F. Buckley.

You don't think new DNC candidates with socialist streaks winning primaries by large margins over more moderate DNC candidates are not concerning signs of support for socialism?

Worry not, there is plenty of POTUS criticism over at NRO to satisfy just about anyone.

Pointing out a massive oversampling is not quite the same as "viciously spinning". If the polls had a 10 point oversampling of Republicans to Democrats the critique would be just the same (maybe the top line numbers would be different, but the reason the poll was flawed would remain).

Stuff like this simply makes me ignore polls. I also look to things like "Operation Chaos" earlier on, where people were pranking the Democrats by offering small cash donations to Marianne Williamson in order to game their primary rules and keep her as a viable candidate long after she should have been dropped. (Of course any candidate who identifies as a New Age witch and quotes Neon Genesis Evangelion certainly does add.....something....to the campaign).

And of course the same question remains about how Canadian polls are conducted. "Knowing" the slant of who is commissioning the poll is helpful, but the analytical breakdown of questions and sample composition is far more important.

You weren't asking me but I'm going to answer anyway.
Definitely not! There are no DNC candidates that are anywhere near being any more socialist compared to Canada.

[b[Canada is not a socialist country! Period! [/b]

l've posted that link other places too but Americans refuse to acknowledge the facts. They're apparently full of false patriotism that prevents them from understanding that they're being hoodwinked by the 1%. And I guess that consider Trump as daddy big bucks who tells them he'll fix everything. A real pity what's happened to that country in such a short time.

Hi Don

I completely disagree with you.

If anyone is refusing the facts it is the democrats. Did you know that there's a new site called "The Recount". Actually, it is for the initial vote count. It seems the democrats want to drag out the vote count past the electoral college timeframe - maybe even past the date that the president steps down or accepts the win. But if the vote drags past due dates, then there will be no recount.

The Recount In this short video Hillary talks about Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances and that the vote counting will drag on. She also claimed that the republicans will mess up absentee balloting; claimed that the democrats have to a have teams of people to counter the republicans forces of intimidation outside polling stations; apparently they (democrats) are Amazing Kreskins - they know what the republicans and Trump will do. I think that's called "projection".

But what does iit all mean? I think the democrats expect trump to win and they're pulling out all the stops. Note that I only used one video/news for my viewpoint. It's simply because there are many sites, pro democrat or pro republican, (like redstate that you mention somewhere) that will challenge contrary positions.

maybe I'm wrong and maybe I'm right. Frankly, we're Canadian and the Americans don't really care what we think (I think?)

Thanks for the heads-up on the 'recount' Shawn. Had you noticed the reference to the 40 day limit on time after the election in which to have it decided. Can't remember where it's at right now or who posted it. Either Mariomike or FJAG?

Hillary makes me feel nauseous but I would use stronger language on saying that elsewhere.

The Latest On Republican Efforts To Make It Harder To Vote
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-latest-on-republican-efforts-to-make-it-harder-to-vote/
"About a month ago, we laid out five ways that Republicans are making it harder to vote and more generally undermining the electoral process in 2020."

Mr. Trump has suggested that higher overall voter turnout would make it harder for Republicans to win elections.
Trump says Republicans would ‘never’ be elected again if it was easier to vote
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/mar/30/trump-republican-party-voting-reform-coronavirus
“The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

Between that, and the Deadline,

I find it pretty hard to imagine how the Republicans can lose. No matter what the polls say.

So by that he means the only way the GOP survives is because of denying people their right (as Americans love to talk about their rights) to cast their vote.

If that isn't a "hey, maybe we should do something about our party" moment right there, I don't know what is.

More on why this US election, and maybe more importantly all the down ballot elections, is so important for that country and the free West.

Groups of Americans who today advocate endless racial contempt, who systematically distort our history for political gain, who scapegoat and silence whole groups of citizens, who brazenly justify and advocate violence and the destruction of property invite us not to justice and equality but to an ugly future whose only certainty is fear.

Those who attack these American institutions ( insist that their foundations have been corrupt from the beginning. They insist that racism, injustice, and oppression are inextricably linked to our national identity, and therefore everything born of the American experiment is tainted by sin. In their revolutionary fervor, they wish to sweep aside everything identified with our history and establish a new social and political order on novel and untainted foundations. They show no humility or self-restraint. They display limitless contempt for opposing views. They sympathize with vile tyrannies, disdain the rule of law, attack market commerce, hide behind the privilege their university indoctrination has authorized, excoriate the family, and attack those very religious traditions that have produced a moral horizon transcending tribalism and given rise to the concern for justice and equality for all.

who brazenly justify and advocate violence and the destruction of property

Who is brazenly justifying that?

Former VP Biden said this,

I want to make it absolutely clear: Rioting is not protesting. Looting is not protesting. It’s lawlessness — plain and simple. And those who do it should be prosecuted. Fires are burning and we have a President who fans the flames. He can’t stop the violence, because for years he’s fomented it. But his failure to call on his own supporters to stop acting as an armed militia in this country shows how weak he is. Violence will not bring change, it will only bring destruction. It is wrong in every way. If I were President, my language would be less divisive. I’d be looking to lower the temperature in this country, not raise it. Donald Trump is determined to instill fear in America, because Donald Trump adds fuel to every fire. This is not who we are. I believe we should be guided by the words of Pope John Paul II, words drawn from the Scripture: ‘Be not afraid.’ I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message.

National Review is extremist in saying that nothing will change or  should change

No, not everything and neither is everything that is tainted been tainted by sin.

But I think it's a good topic to explore and debate further!

Who is "most people"?

When did Biden ever justify unlawful activity in his 8 years as Vice-President, or as a candidate?

Perhaps I got confused between Biden and the media and other democrats.  The riots are mostly peaceful stance, as buildings burn around them and people are accosted.  I'm sure you forgive me for blurring of lines between the MSM and DNC/Biden.  It's easy to do these days.

I thought that Fox News was the number one watch news channel in the US.

Are they not the MSM?

Hi MM

I don't know how much Biden is involved but it seems he was on the scheme to entrap Gen. Flynn.

No doubt Shawn, all the Dem party politicians would be actively involved in that!
