Woke  up to this today.

CNN showing video of the vehicles. Propane tanks wrapped in pipe bombs filled the back of a van that did not blow up. One car did explode. Apparently Syrian security forces beat back the attack. They are saying one member of the Syrian security force was killed and they have one of the attackers in custody.

I'm sure there will be more news on this throughout the day.

Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in a brazen attack Tuesday using automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives, the government said. Syrian security forces killed three of the attackers. The assailants apparently did not breach the high walls surrounding the white embassy compound in a diplomatic neighborhood of Damascus. But a Chinese diplomat was slightly injured by a stray bullet during the attack, China's government news agency said.  A witness said one Syrian guard outside the embassy also was killed, but the government did not immediately confirm that . . . .

A bomb attack on the US embassy in Damascus has been foiled by local security forces, Syrian officials say.  Attackers tried to drive two cars at the embassy compound but three men were killed by guards and a fourth was captured, the interior minister said.  One car bomb went off but a second failed, he told Syrian state TV, adding that it was being examined for clues. One embassy guard was also reportedly killed but there are no indications of US casualties in the incident . . . .

The U.S. Embassy in Damascus was attacked by at least four gunmen Tuesday in an act of terrorism reflecting mounting anti-U.S. sentiment in Syria. Syrian news agency SANA quoted an official security source as saying anti-terrorism forces foiled the attempt to storm and bomb the U.S. Embassy by a Muslim extremist group and clashed with the gunmen, killing three and injuring the fourth . . .
