They checked my credit ..but why did they change my 'occupation' with Equifax?

Hi There -

I purchased a credit history report from Equifax and Transunion to make sure everything was up to date and as it should be.  Sure enough, the DND did a credit check on me.  ONE day after my interview! (Someone is on the ball.  :salute:)

In any case, to get to the point, I noticed that my current occupation was changed.  Equifax now has my current employment displayed in the following way:

Employer: DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE
Occupation: AEC

...and my current employer is now listed as my previous employer.  Can any one tell me what is up with that?  I know that I do not have a job with DND yet, so why is Equifax under the impression that I do?

Additionally, Transunion, does not have DND listed as having accessed my reported credit history.  Can I expect that they will?

I ask because I have some information listed with that company that is not correct. (previous address and employer)  I have fax prepared for them tomorrow to correct the matter, but I am worried that DND Will check it, observe the discrepancy and flag me in some fashion.

I would appreciate any help with these two questions.

Regards from Montreal  :salute:,
Joe

Credit companies work on an exchange policy

How they get current information is when people ask for info
who have permission to do so, the information you provide to companies
i.e. the army, the bank, Bell Canada, credit cards, is used to update your file

so if you moved, your new address will appear
if you have a new job, the occupation will appear
if you apply for credit with a spouse, your spouse will be listed

I was used by my brother Chris as a second for a loan
he never took the loan, but now Chris is listed as my spouse
(i.e. they have my brother as my wife)... no i haven't corrected it.. its too funny

Its an exchange of info.  Thus, when the army contacted them for
your information, they have assumed you are now an army employee.

I was a private investigator for awhile.  I've seen some serious mistakes
made in credit reports.  NEVER name your kid the same name as you.
I've seen so many mistakes made because of this, both reports
getting mixed up....

That sounds about right. My address has changed about 3 times in 2 months with equifax. I live in the city of North Lauderdale which is in a larger area known as Pompano Beach and the two are often, incorrectly used interchangeably. It seems if the address that whoever is doing the check uses is different from the current one equifax has they change it to the new one assuming I've moved or something. I've gotten several 'change to account' notices over the past couple of months and they were all because of the flip flopping of city names.

Aggravating but not bad and certainly not as funny as having a brother listed as your spouse.

When I was in school to be a private Investigator (Sheridan College)...

of course.. I was essentially the class clown.

We had an assignment to get our credit reports. The prof asked,
'Anyone learn anything interesting?'... to which I replied.

I'm married to my brother.  She dismissed it as a joke while the others
laughed cause they'd already seen it.  The prof couldn't believe it and
died laughing when she found out.

My brothers credit... I shudder to think..  I really don't want him
linked to mine now that I think of it.

The most important thing about the credit report... is seeing who
has checked your credit in the past while. We used to access
people's credit records.... (not saying any more) but point
is a lot of people who shouldn't DO check your credit to
get information on you, and not always good.

A credit report is dangerous... It has your
birthday
Social Insurance number
occupation/employer (previous and current)
address (previous and current)
credit cards and loans AND your rating (of course)
spouse

off the top of my head.  This stuff is not what you want
floating around.  You can get a free copy of your credit
report from Equfax or Transunion if you ask them. Its the
law I do believe.  Also... they WANT you to check your
credit report - ITS AN EXCHANGE OF INFORMATION - i.e.
you will fill out a nice little form and they will update the
credit report via the info you gave them....

So they want to know that the info they have on you is correct
and what better way than YOU doing it.

Credit reports = nasty business

Thx for the word on that Trinity.

Do you know if they check with transunion?

MRAHH....

um..  I don't know.. I wouldn't think so...

They're competing companies.. so i wouldn't think so.

well...my credit is very bad ...and i still gat selected... :salute:

Credit companies have a form you can fill out to correct information. You should be able to download it and submit it. Once the credit company corrects the info, they will send an updated version of the credit report to anyone who requested your information in the past few months (3 or 6 months, I forget exactly). But if the CF had a problem with the occupation mistake on your file (or anything they are concerned about) they would call and ask you about it.

They probably will not Check With TransUnion. I work for a Credit Card Bank on civvy street, and you'd be surprised how many ***k-ups will come from Credit Files.

If they already checked with Equifax, they won't bother with Transunion, there isn't anything huge one will have without the other having it.

Thx for the scoop Mopo! ..You too Pieman.  I'll check for that download.  Can't hurt to correct that.  Congrats for you Lerick.  Thx for chiming in.  That's reassuring.
