Whenever I get the chicken with gravy, I just throw the instant mash potatoes in there,  it's a pretty salty meal, but the potatoes soak up everything so you reap as much nutrients as possible.  I really good morale booster is taking a jar of nutella out to the field with you.  It's delicious, and is full of hazelnut so you can get some protein in your system, especially helpful for eating your bread of course.  if for some reason you have a good amount of downtime in a ten man tent,  another boost some of the guys use (not me) is they make a sno-cone with their drink crystals, although they lose energy from eating snow, they get the sugar from the packets without the diabetic seizures of straight injestion.
