Hey,

I ended up having my medical and Interview late last week. Everything went fine. Two trades were closed and I was interviewed for combat engineer. The det commander.who.interviewed me also offered to talk to the selection personnel about still getting.me.in a closed trade as it's similar to what I do in the civilian world.

One.issued seemed to.come up, my tattoo's.

I have a full pirate themed sleeve on my right Arm and the words live free on my knuckles (almost faded). The pirate sleeve has a skull in the tattoo and they said I needed to send pictures in for approval as they may stop my enrolment. Do you see these being a real issue from experience. They said it's just been the past year that they've been cracking down on tattoo's?

Thanks

I'm not an expect, but from what I can remember, as long as they are not vulgar, racist or gang symbol related then you should not have an issue.

Are Forces members allowed to have tattoos and/or piercings?

Yes. Forces members can have non-offensive tattoos anywhere on the body except for the face, head and ears. Offensive tattoos (anything pornographic, racist, containing vulgar language/design, etc.) are not acceptable in the Forces. Forces members are not allowed to wear any piercings while in uniform or in the work environment, except for women’s stud earrings.

I really suggest looking through the CF's official FAQ list available here, it really is a wealth of information.

Good luck!

LOL I have live free tatted on the knuckles too
And a skull on my right arm (it's an octopus with a skull face) and its not an issue what so ever
The only problems you can run into are if you have tattoos on your neck and head.

Apart from that you're golden

got a few tats myself. As long as they are covered when in uniform, they really don't have an issue with it. And of course, not vulgar/offensive and stuff. I've got one on my shoulder and one on my back and my sgt has a pile of them lol.. you will of course have to let them know about each of them and why you got them and if they have any significance and such during your security clearance portion of you bmq. They will list them all on your file.

I have a skull on my neck and also needed to send pictures in but haven't got any news from that but I know they have contacted my references and HR where I work.  I take it it's a good sign...
