Hello,

I am trying to track down a video of a training exercise I saw somewhere. In the video there was a room with a bunch of pipes and valves and sea water was dumped inside to simulate a sinking ship. The people stuck in side had to work together to stop the flooding.

I've search youtube but no luck...I might be using the wrong key words.

Anyone here know of a video like this? I want to show some colleges as I believe it is also used in astronaut selection.

Thanks.

This is a very video from the Royal Navy, it uses footage from the Falklands as well as inside their Flood Trainer DRIU Havoc.  It is an excellent simulator and better than ours in that it can move like a flight simulator and give you the feeling of a ship fighting during action stations.

Here's a video from an older Canadian TV show called "Truth, Duty, Valour" which presents some scenes of shipboard Damage Control, including flood fighting training for Canadian sailors.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxnFuSW5gNk

Sorry, missed that jollyjacktar.

Oh, no problem mate.  Noticed my original post has spelling errors (autocorrect) wanted to modify but saw it quoted me instead.  At that point I said screw it and tried to delete it, I guess it didn't.  The more videos, the better.  I just have a woody for the DRIU, it's such a more realistic trainer in many ways than ours (flood wise), and why I posted just that one video.

Seeing as you mention astronaut selection training and the flood trainer Pieman.  Here is a clip from CBC with a taste at the DCTF in Halifax.  http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/do-you-have-what-it-takes-to-be-an-astronaut-1.4021202

Pretty recent, as the instructor faces are current from the staff out there.

I wonder if they go with basic level as a stressor for the astronauts, after all they are mostly civilians and some Air Force or medical personnel for those coming from the military.

Would be fun to film throwing them into a SBT level ex in preparation for work-ups  [:D>

Nothing like the cold water of February/March hitting you in the balls (or not) as the flood tank gets deeper and deeper to instill some panic in the first time user.  It's a good first step In putting the candidates under some stress while trying to achieve a goal that requires cooperation and motor skills, with controlled danger.
