Hello
I recently sat down and discussed joining with my local reserve unit's recruiter.  My question is ......on the forces ''apply now" section it sates that the first step is to contact your reserve unit.would my meeting count as this step?

cheers :cdn:

Yes, this would meet the requirements.  The reason you are asked/encouraged to visit your local Reserve Unit first, is to determine whether or not they are actively hiring at the moment and to determine which occupations are available.

You can submit an application for employment with the CAF Reserve Force at any time.  http://www.forces.ca/en/page/applynow-100

The Reserve unit should also have a letter to give to the prospect, or sent directly to the CAFRC, indicating that the prospect has been found acceptable.  This will indicate to the CAFRC that the process can proceed without the complication of there being no unit accepting said prospect.
