Hi
I've been an AVS tech for a few years.  Thinking of applying for Log Officer this summer.  I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer...
1.  I have my PLQ and my Degree, what rank will I have if I do go Log Officer... 2Lt or Lt???
2.  Will I have to do BOTC if I have my PLQ?
3.  I want to go in the Finance field (that's what my degree is in).  Is it possible to stay in Finance or actually pick it, when I apply?  (instead of Food services, Supply, Transport...)

Thank you.

....I don't know about your other questions, but one of my old Transport officers was taken out and sent to a postal unit.  I'm not sure if this is a normal thing or a special case.
Cheers

You would apply under the Special Commissioning  Plan as you already have your degree.  I can't access the CFAO (970 that governs SCP but it will give you all the info you need.  In your favour the message for SCP is out right now so you can take a look at that to gain more info as well.

While having your PLQ is good it is the rank you hold at the time of your mesage that dictates your rank upon commissioning IIRC.  Read over the CFAO as it will tell you exactly what you get for the rank you are.

While you will be put where you are needed most most likely you will get finance as your specialty after you do your phase 4.  There is no need to pick it when you apply just let you CoC and career manager (if you get accepted) what you want to do.

Thanks for the info.  I'll have a look at CFAO 970 when I'm back at work this week.

Just to clarify, the CFAO is 9-70.

Just so you know, assuming that you are successful in commissioning, there is no guarantee of you staying in the Air Force.  Right now, there is an Army Log Captain in Petawawa that was an AVN Tech for 10+ years and did not get Air Log for example.

Once you get the environment/DEU sorted out you have to complete phase training before going on to specialist training.  For Air Loggies the career manager's shop does ask what you are interested in and try to match your interests with the slots available.  However, sometimes this can be difficult - I know guys who were given Supply instead of Transport, Transport instead of Admin etc.  You can get switched in speciality but you have to make your wishes known and put in for the courses that you want.  Finance is usually easy to get since they are short.  The best people to ask are the Air Log finance officers on your wing and ask for some tips.
