Question regarding public statements

I'm aware of the regulations restricting CF members from making public statements, most especially regarding political/policy matters but I'm not quite clear on how far it goes. For example, if I wrote a letter to a newspaper, defending the DND or the CF, but did so without any statement of my status as a CF member (IE only gave my name), would it violate regulations? I've searched the forums on this one and couldn't find anything. Apologies if I missed something or if this isn't the proper place for the post.
