Alexandria, Princess of Wales, is said to have "spluttered":--

"So, my Georgie boy has become a real life, filthy, blue-coated, Picklehaube German soldier!!! Well, I never thought to have lived to see that!"

What was the occasion?

And does anyone know the meaning of "Picklehaube"?

King of England, Tsar of Russia and Kaiser of Germany were all cousins and pert muh all of em had honorary appointments in each other's army.... so you can find pictures of the king of England wearing pre German WW1 uniforms.

Alexandra's father was King Christian IX of Denmark who had gone to war with Prussia over the dutchies of Schleswig and Holstein which resulted in the first foreign  victory of the Prussian minister Otto von Bismark. Alexandra was permanently embittered and when the Kaiser made her second son, Prince George, an honorary Colonel in the Prussian Army she had that outburst.

:salute:
