It is with the deepest regret that I have to inform you of the passing of Mrs Carol Isfeld on August 15th 2007 at the St Josephs Hospital, in Comox, British Columbia.

Mrs Carol Isfeld is well know for the "Izzy Doll" campaign which started in 1994 while her son MCpl Mark Isfeld was in Croatia, where he was killed removing land mines on June 21st 1994.  Today these dolls are still distributed to children in wartorn regions around the world.

Mrs Isfeld was recepient of the 2000 Canadian Memorial (Silver) Cross in recognition of her son's sacrifice and on April 28th 2006 she and her husband were awarded the Meriterous Service Medal (civil division) by Her Excellency the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada.

Details of the funeral service will be provided at a later date.

I knew Mark very well!

God Speed Carol!!!!!!!

I met Mark once, at a fairwell before he went to FRY.  I recall his mothers name being held in very high regard by the Sappers of 1CER, and I recall a visit in Bosnia to a school that he had been affiliated with.  I remember dropping off EUFor Christmas packs to the kids there on New Years eve, 2004.

The whole family contributed so much, and will be missed.

Carol M Isfeld, M.S.M. (Civil Division), recipient of the Queens
Jubilee Medal, the Memorial Cross, and who was National Silver Cross
mother for the year 2000,  of Courtenay BC has died suddenly on the
15th Aug 2007.

Carol is remembered mostly for her contribution to Canada by the
initiation of the "IZZY DOLL", which she continued to crochet after
her son Mcpl Mark R Isfeld was killed on a UN mission in Croatia
removing landmines.

Her participation in several landmine issues subsequent to Mark's
death, and the phenomenon of the Izzy Doll, which spread across the
country to every nook and cranny, and provided not only some solace
for children in war torn areas, but also has become a vehicle of
immense satisfaction among many of the mostly elderly citizens across
the land - providing to all who have participated in producing, or
distributing, these dolls a feeling of self worth and satisfaction of
accomplishment.

A celebration of her life and memorial to her memory will be carried
out in Comox BC on the 8th day of September, time and venue to be announced.

A CELEBRATION IN LOVING MEMORY OF CAROL ISFELD, A SILVER CROSS MOTHER,
FOUNDER OF THE MOVEMENT THAT GAVE THE IZZY DOLL TO THE CHILDREN OF WAR,
THE CHILDREN OF THE REFUGEE CAMPS AND THE HIV AND AIDS ORPHANS AND THE
POOREST OF THE POOR IN THE 3RD WORLD!

Time:  1330 hrs (1:30 p.m.)

Carol M. Isfeld of Courtenay BC, recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal
(Civil Division), the Queen's Jubilee Medal, the Memorial Cross, and who
was National Silver Cross mother for the year 2000, died suddenly on
15th Aug 2007.

Carol is remembered fondly for her contribution to Canada and humanitarian
causes worldwide through her initiation of the "Izzy Doll", which
she continued to crochet after her son MCpl Mark R. Isfeld  <http://www.isfeldbc.com> was
killed while removing landmines during a United Nations mission in
Croatia in 1994

Carol's participation in landmine issues subsequent to Mark's death was
itself significant, but what makes her story truly remarkable was the
phenomenon of the "Izzy Doll" which spread across the country, not only providing some
solace for children in war torn areas but also became a source of immense satisfaction
among many mostly elderly citizens across the land - providing to all who have
participated in producing or distributing these dolls a feeling of self worth
and satisfaction of accomplishment.

Carol's life and contribution to Canada and the children of the world will be
celebrated near her home in the Comox Valley at a memorial gathering
on the 8th of September 2007, appropriately at the school named after her son,
MCpl Mark R Isfeld Secondary School, 1551 Lerwick Road, Courtenay, BC V9N 9B5 at
1330 hours (1:30PM). Everyone is welcomed.
