My grandfather, probably like a lot of people‘s, served in the Second World War.. Now, he passed away about ten years ago, and although we (my mother and aunt) knew he had served, his medals had been taken by his son and pawned off a long time ago.. We had origionally thought that they were all gone, but it turns out that some of his medals were NOT pawned, and my aunt ran across them a few weeks ago. She and my mother have both asked that I find out what I can about him and his military record.

I‘ve briefly spoken with Veteran‘s Affairs, but they couldn‘t tell me anything. As a serving member, could I request his Pers File? I‘d like to find out what I can, but I don‘t even know what unit he served with..

It‘s also been suggested that I mount his medals and wear them on Rememberance Day in his honour, but I‘m not really comfortable with that idea. Is it even allowed for a serving member to wear a deceased relative‘s medals?

Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks..

Chimo!

No, you‘re not allowed to wear his medals.

You can write away for his service record. Go here for everything you need to know:

It would help if you knew his service number.
