Italian woman abducted in Kabul
An Italian female aid worker has been kidnapped in Afghanistan's capital, Kabul, officials say.
They said the woman was forced from her car by several armed men and then dragged into another vehicle.
The abduction of the woman - who worked for the aid agency Care International - was confirmed by Italian diplomats and other officials.
Last October, three foreign nationals working for the UN were seized in Kabul but were freed unharmed a month later.
Afghanistan has not witnessed the level of abductions seen in Iraq, but fears have been growing that foreigners could be targeted by militants.
Hunt for abductors
The Italian aid worker was abducted at about 2100 local time (1630 GMT) in central Kabul, Afghan officials said.
The attackers stopped the woman's car at gunpoint and then forced her into their white Toyota.
"Four men carrying Kalashnikovs bashed in the window of her car and took her away," Care International director Paul Barker was quoted as saying by the Associated Press news agency.
Mr Barker said the gunmen told "the driver not to move or he would be shot".
He declined to give the woman's name, but she was identified as Clementina Cantoni in the Italian media.
Care International is one of the biggest agencies operating in Afghanistan.
News of the abduction spread quickly and the Afghan police set up extra checkpoints around the city, the BBC's Andrew North in Kabul says.
He says Nato-led peacekeeping forces are also now helping with the search.
