Battle of the Atlantic Sunday.

We invite you to join us at the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial on Sunday May 5, 2013.

We anticipate record numbers for this year’s ceremony.
...
WHO: Royal Canadian Navy, representation of Veterans and Veterans Organizations from Canada, United States and Britain, special guests and dignitaries, general public.

WHAT: The Battle of the Atlantic ceremony is held every year on the first Sunday in May.

WHERE: At HMCS Prevost, the Naval Reserve Division in London, Ontario, Canada. HMCS Prevost Naval Memorial Park is the home of the Battle of the Atlantic Memorial. This is a stunning memorial to the ships and men of the Royal Canadian Navy who were lost in the 6 years of the Battle of the Atlantic. It is a series of 25 massive granite stones, each engraved with the name of an RCN ship which was lost. The stones are placed in chronological order along a 300 meter hillside.

WHEN: 5 May 2013, 12:30 pm.
WHY: To honour the sacrifice of over 1500 brave lives which were lost, and to honour those who fought and are still with us today.
No matter what your usual plans are for this Sunday, we ask you to consider joining with us, visiting the memorial, and participating in this solemn ceremony of remembrance.

2013 Special Events

HMCS Fraser Gun
This year we will also be dedicating the 3”50 gun from HMCS Fraser (DDH233). This massive 21 ton gun was recently placed on permanent mount at HMCS Prevost Naval Memorial park. The Fraser was a St. Laurent Class ship. It was also the namesake of an earlier HMCS Fraser (H48) which was lost in the Battle of the Atlantic. This gun is dramatically placed where its shadow falls over the memorial stone of the first Fraser.

Walkway of Hero’s
Within the park HMCS Prevost has also initiated the Walkway of Hero’s. This will eventually be shaded with oak trees. Each one will be planted and dedicated to a Royal Canadian Navy hero. The first tree will be planted and dedicated during this ceremony.
This will be a momentous and historic event. We offer you a sincere and heartfelt invitation. If you or your organization can attend, we’d like to hear from you. In the program we will be listing those organizations, Legions, etc. which are represented.
