I'm not sure if I've already asked this.

Some time ago an officer gave a bunch of us a brief on taking ones military experience and translating it to civilian terms for use on a resume.
It was pretty awesome how they took every day stuff from the military (that you wouldn't even give a second thought to) and applied it to civi-side.

Only problem is that we were never really told how to get a hold of the guy, given a web site or any contact information.

Would this be a PAFO thing or something else? Has anyone heard of what I'm talking about?

cheers

Check the Canadian Forces Liason Council website. They've got the exact information you're looking for.

I wish I had a table like this when I went for my Force interview. What a great tool for soldiers to use when transitioning to civilian employment.

Cheers

Not entirely useful for the outgoing infanteer (apart from the rank-specific attributes), though, is it...

What I found when I tallied up my own modest Reserve military career (taught a number of recruit, trade and junior leadership courses) is how many classroom hours one can accumulate - don't be shy about including phrases (where applicable) like "Training junior level supervisory candidates in material and project management skills (time management, setting priorities, planning, worker supervision) and small-group leadership"....

Just checked this link and it's not up. Does anyone have a currently link to a similar website that takes military experience and translates it into fancy civilian speak to put on resumes?

So the web page talking about how to make resumes is still up?

http://www.cflc.forces.gc.ca/index-eng.asp
Is it on here somewhere?

Right here: http://www.cflc.forces.gc.ca/ees-pae/rr/rus-pau/tlr-elr/index-eng.asp

Thanks for the new links.

On my "master resume" (which I customize for individual job applications), here's the phrasing I've used for my military experience:
Planning operations, training, exercises, and special projects in military environment;

Training junior level supervisory candidates in material and project management skills (problem solving, time management, setting priorities, planning, worker supervision), small-group leadership;

Promoted through increasingly responsible leadership positions, from direct supervisor of small groups (8-10) to assisting command, control and discipline of larger groups (up to 80)

Teaching/Coaching
Approximately 850 classroom hours teaching/training experience, teaching skills and theory subjects, with students aged 12 to 40;

More than 300 classroom hours teaching principles of instruction, lesson planning, use of visual aids, student assessment techniques and student behaviour management;

Assessed, mentored and developed junior level supervisors and small group trainers;

I'm not sure if you posted this here because it deals with resumes, reserve service, or both - but regardless of your answer, you may want to take a look at VAC Career Transition Services.  A good portion of the workshops are devoted to creating an excellent resume based on your military service.  I strongly recommend the program - the personal coaches they hire (the ones I've met here in the NCR, anyways) are outstanding.
