On March 14th, 1988, China used force to occupy the Johnson Reef of Vietnam. China's navy used heavy arms to massacre underequipped Vietnamese sailors. Such brutal acts were strongly condemned by international community. However, China seemingly has not drawn any lessons from the Johnson Reef event, as they continue to use force to carry out its conspiracy to turn the whole South East Asia Sea into its home pond.

China did a good thing by invading Vietnam in 1979, then being a constant threat throughout the 1980s.

First, it showed the world that the Soviets could not come to the aid of its allies. Second, it forced the Vietnamese to watch their northern borders and it prevented them from throwing the bulk of their troops in the occupation of Cambodia.

If Chinese influence is bad, Vietnamese influence is far worse.Vietnam was threatening Thailand. It was occupying Cambodia and it still has an iron grip on Laos today. If there is a state with a history of naked aggression, it is Vietnam.

Chinese influence in the region is soft. It exerts it largely through its diaspora.
