Has anyone else heard that it is now official that this summer will be the last year that bridging will be taught on the 3‘s course.
My question is what will block 3 consist of them?

This topic was raised some time ago. Take a look at: http://cdnarmy.ca/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=000015 .

Not only will some aspects of Bridging be removed from the QL3, but so will several basic army skills. Things like machine guns and anti-tank weapons were added to the QL3 after being removed from QL2. With the introduction of SQ courses, many of theses skills will again be taught prior to QL3.

What will be taught? Several recomendations were made last summer. Expanding the mine warfare pakage, introducing BMD, and increasing the time spent on tools were just some of the suggestions. As for decissions . . . I don‘t know that they have been made yet.

Well, they did say that last year.
And the year before that.

Hopefully it never happens. I know I didn‘t feel like a real Engineer until I build a bridge.

How can you become a member of the Castor Canadensis club if you don’t qualify on the adult sized Mechano Set? Thought it was a Right of Passage… ;)

Must agree w/ Harry, the bridging portion of a TQ3 is a rite of passage(of sorts). The new sappers now have an understanding of just how strenuous a build can be, be it Bailey or MGB. :cdn:

I know that is a right of passage for a new sapper but for what I can gather, not to many units do bridge building ex‘s. I know we try to have one at least once a year.

I thought that bailey was taken out the system? and Acrow replaced it.

You‘re absolutely right there Newf, Bailey is out of the system. As for why units don‘t have any more bridging ex‘s---well, money! UN deployments as well take their toll on the troops. Don‘t you worry ‘bye‘ , there will be a day when you‘ll go out and build bridges all across your province, as soon as a budget is put in place. :cdn:

Then "they" did not read the CTP and should be embarrassed that they conducted your courses without having done so. Many of these changes were made a few years ago, but RETS has chosen not to implement them. I know that, over more than a few beers, I listened to the Bridging Troop Commander argue that he should not teach ACROW and NSB to reserve courses when they had already been discontinued in the cooresponding Reg force courses.

No more Bridgeing for Ql.3‘s ?
Some one should pull thier head out of thier *** !
The sooner you train on bridgeing the better you come over time as we all know.
Well Iguess that‘s what happen‘s when you are the most exspensive to train in the Army.

I remember my first Baily in the Wack, piss‘n down rain then it snowed and then it froze, made load‘s of fun for the transom party"Slip , Sliden‘ Away" .Made for some great war stories :)

Well I guess you don‘t know 56 FES then cause we have built many a bridge both here on the island part and also in Labrador.
