Police investigating after bomb threat called into Halifax Shipyard

About 750 people were briefly evacuated from buildings and vessels at the Irving Shipyard in Halifax on Tuesday after reports of a bomb threat.
Irving spokeswoman Deborah Page said all buildings and ships were evacuated as a precaution.
“We had been advised this morning by police that there had been a bomb threat,” said Page on Tuesday afternoon. “Of course, the safety of our employees and customers and those working in the yard is our first concern.”
Around 8:30 a.m., workers could be seen pouring out of buildings and into the yard. Two patrol vehicles were parked at the shipyard’s entrance blocking anyone from entering. Page said the evacuation lasted about an hour.
Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Pierre Bourdages said a 911 call came in at about 8 a.m. about a bomb being at the shipyard. He said officers as well as a K-9 unit were called in to search the area, but no harmful packages or items were found. “There are no signs of anything dangerous,” Bourdages said.
Bourdages said police were on scene investigating for about two hours. He said a public mischief investigation has been launched to determine who made the call to police.
