If one joins the army regular forces as an officer, and then disappears for several months at a time, several times over several years, what happens to them?  Let's say I have a summer job that for the next two years i would have to complete to be able to commit to an army wage from here on out.  How much of a reprimand can one expect for taking 4 months off, only to return very 'gung ho', capable, and team oriented, loyal, etcetera?  Any insight would be appreciated, although, I should mention that I am aware that this would be an unorthodox way to go about things, and for brevity's sake, I have seriously considered dealing with the consequences.  Best wishes,

Carl

If you join as a regular officer, and go AWOL, I don't expect your career would last more than a month after you returned. You can only serve one master. Check back when you've taken care of your 'other' commitment. This topic is locked. Before you post anymore, read the following and pay special attention to the highlighted topics.

Thanks for the orientation recceguy.  Regarding serving "one master", I'm glad you wrote about that.

If one is a reserves army forces officer, and then disappears for several weeks or months at a time, several times over several years, what happens to them?  They would have to request and be granted leave?

How does the military work with staff who are involved in other disciplines; with reservists who would work seasonally especially?  :salute:

Again, best wishes, and thanks any one

Carl

Prapanther,  it is possible for a Reservist to take long absences, usually requested and classified as "Excused Drill and Training" (ED&T) for which there is an administrative procedure to request them.  The problem you would meet is that new Reserve officers are trained during the summer period.  If you were unable to attend that training, no unit is likely to consider you a suitable candidate until your other commitment disappeared.
