Australia boosting its Afghan mission
Sep. 29, 2006. 01:00 AM

Why Canada must review mission

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Opinion, Sept. 26.

New Democrat leader Jack Layton wrote in his article that "Australia announced it was withdrawing its entire 200-strong special forces" from Afghanistan.

This is not an accurate representation of the Australian government's position. Australia is in fact doubling its forces in Afghanistan but changing them from special forces to a reconstruction task force.

They will be located in southern Afghanistan, in Oruzgan province, which is beside Kandahar where the Canadian troops are.

Australia strongly supports the international effort in Afghanistan, including the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), which is deploying to southern Afghanistan as part of its planned ISAF Stage III expansion.

As the Australian foreign minister, Alexander Downer, said in Halifax last week, Australia (and the Netherlands) are increasing the troops we are putting into Afghanistan "and we are doing it in southern Afghanistan which is where the focus of activity needs to be and where the security problem predominates."

Downer said that countries like Australia and Canada could not just walk away from Afghanistan, as that would give terrorists a gigantic victory, letting the Taliban seize Afghanistan again and be able to use it as a base for terrorist operations around the world.

Does Layton ever stop lying? It's disgusting how he keeps ommiting all the pertinent facts and twisting the truth so blatantly How is it that people still listen to him when he has lost all credibilty.

Sheep follow the voice of their Shepherd.

Doesn't mean sheep understand what the Shepherd is saying.  ;D ::)

Seems this Jack bloke is nothing a LIAR, saying that we're leaving. No OPSEC here, this is public knowledge. Yes, the SF may be re-assigned, but they will be back, and yes its a fact, we are sending more personnel, and have recently sent over 400 in September alone.

Goes to show ya he has a hidden agenda, (wait its not hidden, its in your faces). He is only telling half the story, which is not even the half the truth. To deliberatly mislead the people is lying, and that is WRONG!. Personally, I find it quite sickening, especially since I am 'over here' doing mt bit (yes it has been intense at times), while lying spineless pigs, like this so called politician spin their webs of deception!

Phuck him!

Can anyone provide me this maggot's address?

What an embarrassment for Canada, this poor excuse for a waist of rations!

Cheers from Shyteland,

Wes

Well then, send him to Afghanistan and perhaps we'll have an exodus in the manner of the Pied Piper and the rats  :)

I ask myself this everyday and have never come up with an answer.

Wow!  I thought I was the only one who called him Jack "Friend of the Taliban" Layton.  It is good to see I am not the only one who seems to perceive the truth.

I hate to say it, Wes, but Taliban Jack is not the only one to spout this kind of non-sense.  Left leaning (read ill-informed) Canadians think along the lines of what the NDP leader says, even if they are too ignorant to pay attention to politics.  They really do not have any intestinal fortitude, and use every report of dead Canadian Soldiers as an argument to get out of Afghanistan.
These weak minded Canadians cannot see beyond their own immediate existence.  They do not understand the world, and are mystified by any unpleasant reality.  For example, they do not know what their employer's expenses are, so they believe their employer has plenty of money to pay higher wages, if they were only "fair".  They do not understand what National Sovereignty costs, so they view the military as an arbitrary program that can be cut-back, even to elimination.  They do not understand global politics, so they get on board with Anti-American bandwagons because they seem trendy.  They give no thought to religion, so the very concept of dying for their country seems foolish.  "Why die for something you won't be around to enjoy?"
I've met a lot of people who think this way, and it is hard to tell how many there are, since many do not bother to even vote.  I have a couple of them as parents myself.

Jack Layton's politics are a very real threat that cannot be eliminated easily.  Our only hope is that the NDP elect another Alexa McDunna type who does not even understand marketing.
My rant for the day.

Actually, I think that he knows the truth, he just likes to twist it for his own political expediency.

I would say that the general public of Canada needs to be informed of NDP lies by letters to the editor, open letters, and radio call in talk shows.

The call-in shows are a particularly good start because:

1)  easy access,
2)  fewer editorial gatekeepers between you and the message coming out.

The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.

Guess that pretty much explains Jack's plan of action?

I think that under Jack's leadership, the NDP are doing a good job of staking out a piece of ground so far to the left that they will return to the wasteland days of Alexa Mcdonough. They have (IIRC) managed to alienate the UAW, to appear to be soft on terrorism, and have once again exposed that foreign policy is really not their forte. (heh, heh...). They remain consisten America-haters, which exposes that they have no idea what our current prosperity (actually--80% of our economy) is based on. Their only real hope is (and I dread this...) to remain out of power but as "king-makers" to any minority govt that sits after the next election. God help us (and I mean us in particular) if that crowd gets in.

Cheers

I wonder if the NDP will have managed to hang themselves with their mindless comments by the next election. Although the NDP Will always have it's core of leftist voters I like to think that the leftist yuppies alone aren't enough to get them elected. That means that if the misguided who voted for them could be brought to their senses or realize their mistakes the NDP would then be composed of the far left voters only and would no longer be able to get elected, while at the same time keeping the yuppies in a contained toothless group unable to harm our fine country.

Most likely... we'll have to wait and see.  He's already backpeddled on the "bring our troops home" to oh.. I
meant we should switch focus to reconstruction.

I think he'll bail on his people, but the question is when!!???

If the NDP had adopted moderate left policies, and locked up their moonbats, I think they could have usurped the Liberals on the centre-left.

Instead, they will remain on the political fringe.

You'd be surprised how large of a segment of the Canadian population buys a lot of their stuff... almost as many that buy the far-right wing babble. ;)

Of course not..... He is after all a politician..... IMHO they all lie.......  Like  cheap rugs.......

Jack would probably claim that he's not lying; apparently Australia is withdrawing the "special forces" from Afghanistan (and replacing them with twice as many other troops). His comments are misleading/deceptive, however that's Jack's nature.

I am a recently graduated university student, who's social circle encompasses young people from all ages ranging from roughly 19 to 35. While the vast majority of my friends are current with and thoughtful on world affairs, it shocks me how a frighteningly large proportion of people in my demographic accept "STOP THE WAR" or "TROOPS OUT NOW" as a strong political argument. It is precisely their antipathy towards military affairs and politics in general that allows them to adopt such positions and consider them to be logical, essentially because they already have a pre-set ideology that any military operation not labeled "peacekeeping" is inherently bad. These people have difficulty considering any position other than that the immediate removal of all western influence will some how turn said country into a socialist / free paradise bereft of imperialism. Imagine if you will a NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan.... within 6 months kids would be hung from lamposts for playing soccer on a Friday and there would be a benefit concert hosted by Bono entitled "stop the persecution in Afghanistan and Sudan NOW". Of course, going to Sudan and fighting the Janjaweed to stop the genocide there would be great. Because, you know, we wouldn't be "fighting" the armed militia. We'd be "peacekeeping" them.  :threat:

I had a bizzare conversation with a father at my son's school. He saw the SFOR patch on my jacket and started spouting off about how we shouldn't be in Afghanistan because it was helping the Americans in Iraq. When I calmly pointed out Mr Creitien has dispatched Canadian soldiers to the Kandahar region in 2002, he looked like I had nailed him with a 2X4.

He was quite confused and upset, saying he had "no idea" we had been in the sandbox that long. If people are that disconnected from history and geography (he really thought Afghanistan was beside Iraq as well), then Taliban Jack and his friends can say whatever they want; most of their target audience don't know any better anyway.
