In all the concepts/models I have seen, I have only seen 1 scale model with CIWS, the others have none. Makes me think they will only be outfitted onto 3 ships or something.
I think that the only way Canada would gain more aerospace industry capability would be if Airbus/BAE/Dassault or SAAB allow us to manufacture their products (Gripen/Typhoon/C295 etc etc) in conjunction with Bombardier. I really don't see it happening any other way politically. If for instance...
I have the article open in a cached version, haven't read it yet. If you open it that way it will work if you stop the browser from refreshing.
Edit: This gist of it was Davie praise but mainly that the 3 Viking icebreakers were selected, the AIVIQ was not, work will begin this summer. I was...
15 is the official number but, I did read someone in the government mentioning the possibility of only 11. I truly do not remember this and am now using google-foo if my memory is deceiving me.
Edit: I believe it was Jason Kennedy, though it was said in 2015, so it's pretty old news
This is awesome! I never seen this before, in all the other little pictures they have shown for the CSC, you can't really see the Port or Starboard CIWS/SeaRAM. This is the first model where you can see it all really clearly and it's SeaRAM :) Cool!
The Karel Doorman is my favourite Joint Support Ship... I wish we had 2-3 of those :P For how Canada would use them, we would never even need to look in the direction of an LHD.
So in one corner we've got Alion-Canada working with DAMEN to bring us the De Zeven Provincien largely unchanged. Then there is the F105 from Navantia teamed with SAAB Australia with again not many changes. Then the Type 26 with Lockheed Canada paired with BAE and the Canada A-Team, definitely...
I really don't see a single nation buying any of Irvings ships let alone their AOPS. If it costs around half a billion to make 1 AOPS for Canada, I do not think it could be successfully pitched overseas. They say they are developing the skills necessary to be great builders, sure, but they can...
I thought they did already? CDR mentioned when they visited CANSEC that they had a booth that went pretty unnoticed and what they are offering is a variant of the De Zeven Provincien from DAMEN. I hope I am thinking of Alion here...
Edit: I guess showcasing at a booth would be different than...
The Diefenbaker was pushed past the JSS builds because of the Protecteur and Preserver being near the end of their service life and then decommissioned. Also keep in mind that when the NSS was first announced, bot the Dief and the JSS were expected to be completed by 2018. It is looking like it...
The Diefenbaker was pushed back to allow construction of the JSS ships to take place first wasn't it (Just noticed your comment on CDR)? My only criticism of Seaspan is they should have started with the JSS to begin with :P They never had a say in that though did they?
That's actually what my "fantasy" Canadian Navy looks like if we do not procure any amphibious assault ships, just seems like our style... I would love if Canada managed to get itself 18 surface combatants (6 for AAW), if the Dewolfs can replace the Kingstons, then 12 of em'! And 12 A-26 SSK's...
Oh lord my apologies... I meant Upholder/Victoria... Since I have had Oberon models since I was a kid, they are on my mind often! The nuclear subs never would have happened as they were, the US would have blocked France or UK from providing us with the means if it came down to it. At which point...
The Alion-DAMEN bid was revealed at CANSEC 2017 to a rather lukewarm response because of Alion's lesser name recognition. Regardless they seemed to have a strong pitch with the LCF saying no fundamental changes had to be made. They appear to be on point in delivering exactly what Canada needs, a...
I was just reading the latest issue of CDR and they said Alion-Canada teamed up with DAMEN to supply Canada with the De Zeven Provincien Class ships. Alion is fairly unknown so it will be interesting if they are selected over the bigger names of the other bidders. I also wish Canada got 4x Karel...
Whoa, they actually cut steel for the Polar 8 Project? I didn't know it got past the paper design in any way whatsoever. Wouldn't that icebreaker have been one of the best non-nuclear ones around even today?
For a second there I thought you typed "loaded for beer". Made me laugh. Can't say I have ever heard loaded for bear though, I assume that means packed to the brim with their required arsenal?
The third ship name made me chuckle despite me knowing of the battle. So weird to call a ship "Crysler's Farm". In my mind I just picture a floating wooden barn filled with farm animals... :-X What would you have liked the ships to be named after however?
