Canadian Army recruiting video - 2024

The CAF needs to rethink its retention centric view, and plan on a broad base that uses gating for regular renewal. If you view anything below 25 years as a fail, you fail.

This means a need to invest in the schoolhouses for DP1, to fix policies and processes to streamline intake, to reduce time to OFP, and to accept that attrition that is too low is an organizational problem, not a benefit.
We would need to adjust downward the expectations somewhat for Jr members in technical jobs then, while increasing the pool of them to choose from for advancement.

The jokes are hilarious, but also highlight the problem. How do you sell military jobs that people joke about all the time to potential recruits? Not just Met, but Int, HRA, FSA, cook, etc...

There are lots of critical jobs that we as a society denigrate, so how do you convince people to do them in uniform, with all of the drawbacks that entails? Most people don't think pensions and benefits when signing up for jobs when they are young, so while they are good retention tools, I doubt they help with recruiting in most cases.
ACSO enters the chat

It may come as a shock to some, but some of us didn’t pick it because we failed out of Pilot training.

What else did you fail out of between Pilot and getting ASCO then ?

Think its 6 isn't it?
No.

"Full pension" implies maximized benefits. MP retirement allowances are tied to years of service. At 4 or 6 years, they are not at maximum.

It's like saying that a CAF member gets a pension after two years. Which is true, but the amount would be 4%...

Not everyone is suited to be a pilot, or infantry or navy or whatever. I think for the most part most people realize this and will adjust accordingly. The person that isn't a physical specimen or a rocket scientist maybe a damn good clerk or bin rat.

Cool.

Now they need to do underfunded Reserve units in other parts of the country with obsolete, dilapidated kit, no spare parts or spare vehicles and no cool missions like a Jump company.

No? Strange...
Hey now, marching in circles & using a SAT trainer is important work, m'kay...??

I’m sure there are US Reserve / National Guard units that don’t seem to do a lot either, until they get called up.
