I was just browsing through the photo galleries for the weapons section of army.ca. I saw one of the coolest looking guns, the xM8-c. I'm just wondering if it's in use with the Canadian Armed Forces, or if it will be in use with the CF.

[Sorry, if this topics already been covered, did a search and could'nt find anything]

not in use with the CF, won't be for a long time if ever.

do a searc for "xm8" or "xm-8" instead of xm8-c, and you'll find more info.

Seems that the XM-8 was cancelled or put on hold for a while... Thats what I heard from another thread on this forum...

I don't know the status of the gun in the CF, but I do know that it is replacing the current family of the 'M's" (M16, M4, etc.) in the U.S. military.

The Americans as stated above are working on it to replace the current weapons family as stated above. It began as the OICW program which was the same carbine plus a six round, 20mm grenade launcher. I can't remember why but the launcher was cancelled. Anyway, there are currently no plans ( or even rumours) that I have heard about the CF adopting the weapons system.

the rounds were too expensive

it may just be an SF thing

the M8 seems more promising however it is still in the designing stages and is still a long way off from being implemented

as for the CF we are modifying our C7 and C8 to the C7A2 and C8A2.

c7 will have movable but stock and both the c7 and 8 will have colored hand guards and butt stocks. there are other features like having ampidexterouse trigger mech and mag release.

hope that helps

The XM8 and OICW (also known as the XM-29) are two entirely different weapons.  From what I've read, the main problem with the OICW is that it's way too heavy for a rifle.  Carrying around those gargantuan optics and a 6 round magazine of 20mm granades tends to be a little akward.  Also, the 20mm granade rounds weren't proving to be very effective compared to the 40mm rounds in the m203.  The XM-8 on the other hand is lighter than an m-16 with next to no recoil, and comes with a granade launcher (the m-302 or m-320 or something like that) which fires 40mm granades.  Like I said, two totaly different weapons.

Ohhh.  A colapsable butt and ambidextrous fire selector.  Tallk about innovation!  And a new colour scheme too.  Well, at least it won't clash with my combat purse!

God forbid the army do something smart for a change, and get something like this instead:
