Well, at least we know it comes from a reliable source, compared to some of the stuff on Wikipedia.

Sorry, but I don't buy this. The Defence  Research Establishment, which is where the post originated, does not/not speak for CANSOFCOM. The problem these types of posts create is exactly what I outlined in quotes. to wit "Oh, it came from DND so it must be a reliable source."

A number of articles about the operation allude to American (Pentagon) and British officials confirming the involvement of JTF-2. This is a complete media construct. No mention of Canadian Spec Ops Forces was made by Jack Straw, MGen Lynch during his briefing in Iraq, or Pentagon officials during their briefing. The American "confirmation" is based on an article by CBC's Washington-based Henry Champ, who cites "Pentagon officials" before giving his take on the operation. Media speculation at 0700 became "fact" by 0800, and was widely reported as such. Before you knew it, there were guys in balaclavas all over the place.

CANSOFCOM's approach is to neither confirm nor deny things, it simply does not comment on speculation. As a result, this occasionally leaves the door open for anyone to post/say what they want.
