Toronto - Toronto police issued a public safety alert on Tuesday, fearing some potentially-contaminated chocolate destined for disposal in Toronto may have made it onto store shelves.

The issue relates to the recall of Hershey's chocolate last fall. Possible salmonella contamination in that incident was discovered in connection with an ingredient used at the company's facility in Smith's Falls, Ontario.

Police say several pallets of chocolate were at the Turtle Island Recycling Depot on Cherry Street, destined to be destroyed - but  were stolen on Tuesday.

Detectives working with Hershey's employees now fear the chocolate may have made it to the retail level or food suppy chain.

Two Toronto men are under arrest and facing charges, including an employee of the recycling plant.

Police have not identified any product names and describe the stolen goods only as Hershey's chocolate, shrink-wrapped and labelled with batch numbers from 6417 to 6455.

Individuals coming across the chocolate are asked not to eat it and to call police.

 ACK!! The horror!! What is this world coming to when we can't even trust chocolate?

:threat:

I won't buy Hershey's anway.............Milton S. Hershey would roll over in his grave if he knew what a soulless entity his baby had become.
