Was looking for the bunnies in the MARPAT ;) and I found this. Any comments?

Nice looking piece of kit.

There are many single wall tents available now that use a Gore-Tex style technology. Just like the jackets, they are probably better in colder weather than in hot.

All the nice kit available in the US makes one think that we should consider adopting all US kit as standard equipment, and enter into some sort of procurement deal.

Their kit sucks in winter. Gortex is the worst thing in cold. When the US come up, they use our kit. inflatible mucklucs, jackets they have suck.

I kinda thought that tent looked more suited for late spring/early fall than extremem cold. I‘ve been out since late ‘94 are we still using Arctic tents? They may be bulky but I‘ve slept in them in the northern Yukon in -30 to -50 temperatures(no I‘m not counting windchill). I just don‘t see how this lightweight tent would keep anyone warm under those condtions.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The tent was based on a New Zealand Antarctic Survey (has a different name now) design (it‘s not Gortex), and is still (2000) used down there by expeditioners from NZ and Australia.

Yours,
Jock in Sydney
