Watch how the US reacts to this effort/campaign. Some say the US wants a non-Eurocentric female Chair, to counter the FRA-DEU block, but if Bojo answers the mail enough on that desire by Uncle Sam, then Freeland’s star may fizzle.

The non-Eurocentric makes sense for the US, but if they have the dream of putting a CDN in that role, regardless of their gender or their abilities and getting Canada is starting pulling its own weight once again, they are living in a dream world.

I'm suspect of this number - pulling that number of men, primarily between 18-50yrs of age lets says, would crippled their economy - full stop.

It's amazing how much self-inflicted punishment the modern nation-state can sustain.

Putin be like...

None of the big attacks so far seem to have panned out, like the other "winter offensive" rumours, but let's say they do attack with 500,000...

In this kind of war, is that even really that big of a number against the UA which is probably still much bigger and in the defence? I would imagine the UA has probably become pretty big since this started...

Operation Barbarossa was over 3.8M people to put this into perspective.

Estimate I heard yesterday was the UA was 700k - 1m, plus territorial, border guard, foreign legion, and other security forces now total 2.3m for all Ukrainian Forces

If they want a female Chair, obviously that's fine.

Want them to shift the focus away from Europe, to the SCS? Also fine

But there are so many smart, driven, competent women out there... couldn't they pick someone that isn't totally incompetent?

(I don't think that arrogant, condescending tone while explaining nothing, will work all that well in NATO...)

If these are forces not currently committed, able to be concentrated on one front? I have to think that yes, it’s a lot, even with Russia’s tendency to squander troops in brute force attacks. Will they die prodigiously? Yeah, probably… but raw numbers are one distinct advantage Russia has over Ukraine notwithstanding western equipment and ISR support. Could be that Russian strategy will turn to a desperate sort of “bleed them out” by sheer force of numbers? Try to make Ukraine run out of soldiers first?
