Meanwhile Russia ‘strangely’ has recruitment issues.

So they inject about 20k mobilized a month and lose about 20k KIA a month, plus WIA of probably 20k as well. Sounds like a fantastic way to run a war, sorry sPeCuL MiLitArE OpeRaShun ;)

Meanwhile, still one of the most important things the West doesn't really 'get' about Russia...

“The most basic, most rudimentary spiritual need of the Russian people is the need for suffering, ever-present and unquenchable, everywhere and in everything.”

― Fyodor Dostoyevsky

If this report from the German News Agency is true, there will be interest from the habitually poorer regions of Russia based on the some of the

  • 1,830 euros. One time signing bonus for a contract.
  • 1,910 - 2,270 euros monthly salary depending on rank (over 3 x times avg Russian salary)
  • 470 euros / km for advance or capture or destruction of Ukr mil eqpt
  • 45,577 euros death benefit for families of soldiers killed in the battlefield
  • soldier's families will receive gov't fin aid for housing
  • soldiers will receive med tmt and rehab at mil facilities and free health and life insurance
  • families will receive summer camp vouchers
  • families will receive preferred placement at top universities
I will however point out that according to some media reports:
  • soldiers are not getting paid
  • families are not getting death benefits because the Russian military cannot or will not confirm deaths and label many as MIA
I believe that extensive corruption within the military and the gov't will find that many monies supposedly allocated to families will end up in the hands of senior officials instead.

Welcome to the Putin Russia.

It appears that the F16 is finally on its way to the warzone so why are they talking about Gripens. wouldn't adding a second major type simply add complexity without significant benefit? the two a/c appear to share similar duties

Right now the F-16 numbers are limited. We (USA) aren’t offering any of our that are sitting in storage. So the Grippen offers more airframes.

Except the Gripen is easier to service . Little things like no need for mobile work platforms as most components of the Gripen can be reached from the ground. Sweden built into and regularly practices Highway operations for the Gripen. The F -16 CAN take off from highways but needs some Paris Hilton care when doing so.

Once again the US trading UA lives for Russian attrition with no plan how to deal with Russia as a failed state

Grippen was always the best choice for Ukraine. The F16's advantage was the perceived number of airframes available and the pool of potential International Legion pilots and maintainers.

Which has proven to be illusionary with the US dangling them as a carrot and paternalistically still thinking they know best how Ukraine should fight The Russians despite a stunning number of intelligence/analysis misreads and ZERO actual experience in the type of combat now occurring.

why is it up to the US? Theres nothing stopping other nations from stepping up. What have we done lately?
Convened something or other and made vague statements that mean little. The most usefull/substantial aid has come from the Ukrainian diaspora in Canada and other private citizens.

Arguably Russia has been a failed state for some time. Dealing with it is really a European concern because its reach is no longer as world wide as it was. All that the US has been doing and needs to do is help Europe grow a spine.

China is where the US should be concentrating its brain power. - that and remain the world's arsenal. Time to crank up a few more factories.

🍻

A significant amount of military equipment and materiel is US sourced, or US IP. Either way, end user certifications mean the US controls its disposition.
As with many/most things, even when the US does more than anyone else (military support to Ukraine, foreign aid, disaster relief, UN funding, etc.) there are always complaints that they're not doing enough.

I think you misunderstand the U.S.'s end game here. Some U.S. government officials don't want Ukraine to win, they want the war to wage on as long as possible because they are beholden to the arms makers. They also don't want Russia to fail completely because then the DND does not have to arm against the Russian threat.

The U.S. has been in one never ending war after another since Vietnam or even Korea. That is hardly a coincidence. Peace is bad for business and therefore bad for these officials retirement plans.
