LONDON, England (CNN) -- One Danish and one British soldier have died in fighting over the last 24 hours in southern Afghanistan's volatile Helmand province.

The British Ministry of Defence confirmed one of its soldiers was killed in fighting Thursday night.

The soldier -- from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and attached to 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment -- came under enemy fire while on a routine patrol near a forward operating base in the Sangin area of Helmand province.

Six other soldiers were injured in the fighting, which occurred in one of the major battlegrounds of the conflict.

The Danish army confirmed that one soldier was killed and three others were lightly injured during military operations on Friday morning. The soldiers were engaged with Taliban militants when their tank ran over a roadside bomb or a landmine, a Danish commander told CNN.

In another incident, the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan said a service member died Friday "of non-combat related causes." The nationality of the deceased was not available.
