Last week I flew back home after 7 months in Afghanistan. When our Airbus entered Canadian air space, we looked outside our window and were startled to see our plane being flanked by two CF-18 fighter jets. They were matching speed and baring and flying one on each side. We all went to the windows and took pictures, a little confused what was going on. Then the fighter pilot came on the speaker system on our plane and said that they were there to show appreciation for our service in Afghanistan and that they were going to escort us all the way back to Ottawa.
To have those jets flying right on our side was really something special, and it felt like they were saying, "Rest easy boys.. We've got you now."
So to the Canadian Air Force: thank you. That really made my year.
