I sent the following to the Sun's editor today.....am I the only one appalled with the accuracy of coverage at times by the Canadian media?I suppose any press is better than no press, but these people can not get their facts straight at times.

Dear Editors,

I applaud your coverage of military affairs in your
paper , which on the whole is fair and most
informative.

However, I would like to bring to your attention two
errors in photo captions that appeared in today's
Toronto Sun.

On Page 7, your caption erroneously described the late
RSM of 1 RCR as "Warrant Officer Robert Girouard". As
a retired member of the CF, let me assure you there is
a great difference between a "Warrant" and the Chief
Warrant Officer rank that the late Mr Girouard held.
May he Rest in Peace.(For the record the Globe and
Mail made exactly the same error in their edition
today).

On Page 34, your caption states "....General Rick
Hillier, hands out army coins to Canadian
soldiers...."
First off, the pictured serviceman is clearly a
Specialist in either the United States Air Force, or
the United States Army, the facility being a
bi-service
effort. Secondly, elsewhere I read the CDS was in
Landstuhl to present a Canadian Forces Unit
Commendation to the Regional Medical Centre there,
thus I suspect he was handing out medallions of a
Canadian Forces and not an army nature.

Please set the record straight.

Appales? yup.... desensitized by the flurry of media errors - that too!

Thanks for looking after our heinie.

Cheers!

And Stormy never woould have accepted a rank higher than the one he died with (C F L) , and the press had him down as a WO in some papers. That'll learn ya who ya can trust.

Wilde, the 1st press releases had Mr Storm as a CWO.  They were talking about 2 CWOs going down in the same strike - and that had me doing mental flip flops trying to figure out how that coulda happened - having 2 CWOs together outside the fence that is.

I saw that too, but chalked it up to the initial confusion of the attack. I just think newspapers should check their facts before publishing details, especially when dealing with the funerals of deceased members. First time I heard of CFL applied to a Cpl LOL, I held that rank as a Captain!
