Temporary Military ID in Las Vegas

Okay, long story short. Next summer I will be going to Vegas, and I'll be 21 years of age. Here's the issue, I'm a baby-faced university student who can't afford a car, and thus do not have a driver's license. On the other hand, I do not want to be carrying my passport around, because of it's bulky size, and the risk I have of losing it.
Will casinos in Vegas accept the Temporary military ID issued to reservists even though it is a laminated piece of paper with a holographic stamp on the back?

Most provinces have a Provincial Identification Card. I suggest you order one to be safe.

I've tried, but they turned me down, because I've been out of the country too long for university. (I'm currently studying at the University of Chicago)

It's government ID so it should be accepted. Will it still be valid by next summer though? If not, will you be in Canada and able to see a ID Section to get a new temp issue or maybe a permanent.

IMO you'd be better off getting a civilian piece of ID, instead of solely relying on a temp issue ID card for getting into places.

My thought exactly T6.

Also, most provinces will issue a card size birth certificate that you are allowed to have plasticized.

Finally, even if he does't have a car doesn't mean he could not learn to drive and get a driver's license.

Most student ID cards for universities don't have ages. Normally it's name, level of program (Undergrad, Grad), and student number.

I know they were not accepted in Canada.  A number of years ago I went to Casino Niagara with my parents.  I was 40 or so at the time and they were late 60s.  Everyone was being carded at the time.  I guess they did random periods of 100% checks.  I showed my NDI 20 and they required "official ID" that was government issued.  In other words, something they normally saw so they could tell if it was fake or not.

Well I head back to university next week so I'll go, and try to get my learner's license with the next few days.

Since your province of residence (or what you thought was your province of residence) deems you to no longer to be a resident, then you must be a resident (hopefully legal) of Illinois.  While you may not be eligible (due to being an alien?), have you considered getting an ID card issued by the State of Illinois.

State ID Card

Illinois-issued ID cards can help Illinois residents prove identity when banking, traveling, or in other situations. More information about state ID cards is available in the Illinois Rules of the Road.
•There is no minimum age for a state ID card, which provides photo identification for Illinois residents. Children traveling on airplanes may need identification of this type to fly. The card is issued for a fee and is valid for five years. To obtain a state ID card, please visit a Driver Services Facility.
•Free non-expiring state ID cards are available for Illinois residents over age 65. To obtain a state ID card, please visit a Driver Services facility.
•Free State ID cards valid for 10 years are available for persons with disabilities. To obtain a state ID card, please visit a Driver Services facility. The applicant must provide an Application for an Illinois Person with a Disability Identification Card completed by his/her doctor.

I was about to suggest to suggest the same thing. Even though he would be considered an alien, State DMV's do issue ID and drivers licenses to persons who are alien residents, as long as they can provide proof of legal presence. His only real problem would be whether they consider out of state students as residents for ID purposes.

And if he want's the spend the 8 hours it may take waiting in the DMV. ;D

If you are 'out of country' for so long, how do you even have a Temp Mil ID still?  Still enrolled in the PRES and on E D & T?

That's Odd that you are no longer considered a resident of wherever you came from. I know that most students who go away for school are not usually subjected to all the requirements of changing addresses as it is considered a "Temporary" move, much the same as a contract job with the CF PRes.

I'd avoid using the Temp Mil ID in vegas. It's a flimsy junk looking thing that honestly looks like it was made in a basement. Novelty fake ID's look more legit then they do.

I appreciate the desire to avoid using a passport for ID in vegas, but if you are unable to get a provincial or state ID card, then you're kind of in a rough place my friend.  Good luck.

Even though you were likely a student in the US at the time, if you filed you last taxes in Canada then bring your notice of assessment with you and ask again for the provincial card.  If CRA considers you a Cdn resident, then you are.  Otherwise, go get a driver's permit.
