The Straits Times is reporting (live) on the returns from the general election in Singapore. At this time the People's Action Party (PAP), which has been in power continuously since 1965 (50 years), is leading with 71%+ of the popular vote and is elected or leading in 83 of the 89 seats. In the 2011 general election the PAP fell to just over 60% in popular support, an all time low, and there was considerable discussion (just hope?) in the media (and polls seemed to indicate) that the results could be even worse this year, but the PAP did something right and 70% is the same or even better then Lee Kuan Yew earned in the 1980s.
