Search for Aussie ship lost in WWII uncovers the vessel that sunk it

CANBERRA, Australia - A search for an Australian navy battle cruiser lost in 1941 has led to the wreck of the German raider that sank it, the prime minister said Sunday...

Sorry to nitpick on the details, but wasn't she more of a light cruiser than a battlecruiser?

HMAS Sydney was a modified Leander-class light cruiser of the Royal Australian Navy.

The Leander class was influenced by the York class heavy cruiser, and was an attempt to better provide for the role of commerce protection

The loss of the +600 personnel on the HMAS Sydney was the largest single loss of life for Australia in our country's history in warfare.

The ship was last seen in flames, it disappeared with no survivors, only one life-raft was found, and that is on display in Canberra at the National War Memorial.

Cheers,

Wes

It appears that the team has now found the wreck of the HMAS Sydney as well.
