The SAS are being sent to Bahrain to improve base security.

Good to know the SAS are going to be Commissionaires for a "high readiness Marine Commando unit ..."  ::)

Reads like typical tabloid reporting... I would guess they’re sending an advisory/consulting team team to offer insight on asymmetrical threats. I don’t imagine this will be a bunch of SAS dudes standing guard posts.

" . . . to guard Royal Navy base . . . "

Somebody told them that SAS members would know the colour of the boathouse so it was assumed that the regiment would be familiar with watching that kind of environment.

I'm sure that the SBS and Royal Marines will be pleased to have the SAS elbow them out of their usual role with the Royal Navy ;)

Someone has to fill the void after the SEALs got sent home...?

Too soon?

Need to maintain that books published per theatre metric.

I would bet that there are Royal Marines already at the UK naval support base in Bahrain.

Found this interesting article on USNI.

Wasn't there a Para Regt battalion rotated through Bahrain on a permanent basis during the 50's and 60's? Right up until the British abandoned withdrew from the Middle East, I believe.

I know some guys who did those tours.... nothing like being dug into an oven like dust bowl for weeks watching the locals swanning around in their Mercedes.... :)
