This first one I wrote with the NFLD Regs. in mind, WWI and WWII...

The tension mounts
The sun brings its dull rays over the war-torn field
Wounded moan
The dead are silent

They count the hours
Then minutes
Then seconds
Each bit of their life
Fading away before their eyes

Their chances of survival
One in ten
They know that only a few would be back

Then comes the cry
They know what to do
Seconds pass
Most have fallen
Thousands of lives
Taken by bullets

Fathers, Sons
Brothers, Cousins
Uncles and Husbands
Hundreds of widows
Made in a heartbeat

The gun shots ring out
The trenches abandoned
Bodies lying
Scattered across the ground
Both sides

How can you win
When so many die

And this next one, the Unknown Soldier  :cdnsalute:

We don’t know who you were
What you did
Why you went
When you died
Where you perished
Even every day
People pass by your grave
In their hearts
And ours too
We all know
We’re saying thank you

The millions of soldiers
Giving their lives
Freely, willingly
For us to live a free life
You symbolize them all
And when we say thank you to one
We say it to all
Everyone said
None would die
To many gone
Missing, Unfound or dead

We all know
As we pass by
In our hearts, faces turned towards the sky
Smiles of freedom
Speeches galore
We all know
It’s only because of war
And in our hearts
Deep inside,
We feel a kind of pride
One that says thank you
To you, and you, and you

Thank you for reading, I am quite pleased with the outcome, and also want to lay these, if any way possible, in a letter on/near the memorial.
