Does anyone have a full version, not the demo one that is handed out on some courses?

Pocket IFT is a British IFT trainer, It allows for simple AN and smoke missions, allows the user to practice using the equivalant of out Vectors with DAGR attached, and the M-STAR.  I only have the trial version, and I get 60 days from the date I run it.  I can;t find any info on the net for it, nor on the UK MOD site for it.  It is a decent little program that allows for great practice with on a laptop or a projector.  Now the challenge is to find the full version to see if I can get some fireplanning, more maps, and illum.

I have seen this before on someone's laptop.  It seems alright, but very basic.  The version I seen, also makes you answer Fire D questions.  They are British but, the Fire D is very close to the same.

It's kinda fun for a novelty and the basics could be taught/learnt from it.  The version I saw did not have fireplanning and if your using this to practice FP, I would advise against it.  It may teach bad habits.

Now the challenge is to find the full version to see if I can get some fireplanning, more maps, and illum.

Master your Fire D.  That is where most people faulter.  They assume that passing a Fire D TKT that they are good.  I say to them "congrats, you have met the minimum standard".

Making a great plan is good but, but the communication skills, flexibility and comfort on the net is the real art.

I believe VBS2 is the way of the future.  VBS Fires is being introduced as we speak.  It is capable of all basic missions with very little operator training and  fireplanning will be possible with more extensive operator training.  Not sure when or if it will be available for commercial use but, this is what you should be looking for in the future.  Whether it be training at your base (VBS2 Fires should be available, if not now, in the near future) or buying a commercial version for your personal CPU.

I couldn't find a link specific to VBS2 Fires but, here is a wiki link with lots of hyperlinks and footnotes.

VBS2 is not alone in potential; some others:

None of those deal particularly well with mounted Observer/FAC training.
Well beyond the desk top type solution, but possibly a more likely example of the future, is a fully integrated mounted and dismounted simulator such as this one

I guess I should have worded it as the near and likely future.  It is already available and for simplicity, especially for reserve units, VBS can be run with as little as a laptop.  2 is better.  One for the FOO and one for the operator.  Does VBS provide a completely realistic simulated environment?  No it doesn't, but as a cheap, easy and available training asset it certainly fits the bill.  No I am not a VBS salesman. I am just a realist.

This system at a glance is likely quite amazing.

This seems to be the distant future.  I can't even imagine the start up costs associated with this to bring it nationwide.  Isn't start up costs one of the major factors that keeps us from buying any great piece of kit?

That, and a very convoluted procurement system

The FOO/FAC modernization project is looking at those types of modular systems though. The trend seems to be to design them to fit in a number of sea cans so they can be somewhat portable.
